I don't mind Wolves or their fans.  They've suffered a lot of shit years and maybe are overdue a bit of success, be it moderate or world domination.  I'd hazard a guess that the ones genuinely believing in the latter and spouting off about it are very much a minority.  In any case wouldn't it be good for the midlands to have two big successful clubs in the region, especially if neither of them are Clues or WBA?   It would give us something to compete against that the Blues have never managed to provide and probably never will.
I agree it would be great to have 2 clubs competing for top dog at the top of the premier league. God knows I'm sick to death of the Manchester domination. But the gloating from the dingles has become very annoying especially as we've never done it to them  during all the years of our local dominance. As David Bradley said in the 140 years of Aston Villa video " the lows just make the highs higher" I'm sure Wolves will be getting every gloating word rammed down their throats when we do get our chance.

What puzzles me is the reaction to promotion from some of the fans last season. Variously described as a "dream come true", "best day of my life", "unbelievable" etc etc. If said fans were under 10 years of age I could understand it, however they'd only been out of the top flight for six years. I didn't find it annoying, just really odd.

I suppose it is a compliment really that whenever one of the clubs in the local area have a bit of success, we seem to be their first port of call to start gloating.  Can't really recall hearing too many Wolves fans talk about us on WM or anywhere else before last season.

If the spouting off ones are a minority I must have met an unrepresentative sample ever since I can remember.  Almost to a man they've always been laughably self-important and more than anything so serious with it. At least the others will laugh at themselves but with a Wolves fan there's invariably a nasty edge to their boasting.

Agree 100%. Part of our demise into mediocrity has been coming from what can only be described as a one team city with no competition. If the Rags had miraculously managed to get their act together or the Baggies stopped being a yo-yo team, I'd imagine fans and local media would be a lot more demanding.

If it has to be Wolves, so be it.

I've noticed this more in recent years. In the early 90s the Wolves fans I came across were mostly just happy the club still existed and that they had Steve Bull. The strange deluded edge seemed to appear after Jack Heywood bought them.

If you live in Wolverhampton six years probably feels like sixty years.

Buddum tssshhh.
Wolverhampton is also famous for being the only town in Britain that announced they were building a ring road around it and absolutely no one objected.

That's because they thought it was a wall.

Coming from an area with quite a few dog heads growing up, then really are feast or famine. They are either world beaters and arrogant with it, or they lose a few matches and want the manager out and the board sacked. They remind me of Geordies a bit.

I remember Blouse getting all uppity when they got promoted and won a few games. It didn’t take long for the wheel to turn again and for normal service to resume.

The noses love a good commemorative car sticker. I remember the Leyland Daf cup winners ones and the 'We Are Premier League'/ 'Back In The Big Time' type ones when they finally got there after nearly twenty years away from the top flight.

For my sins (a phrase that I hate so add the thread on off topic) I rang in tonight to debunk the myth being spouted tonight by Pete the bluenose (he’s 65 you know) that it’s unfair that the Villa ain’t being punished by ffp but Blues are. Franksy finally had to agree with a Villa fan that we haven’t breached ffp!
