While I don't like an accountant being put in charge, the asset stripping story is pure fantasy.

If you could make more money from buying Aston Villa and selling off the pieces than running it as a going concern, Randy would either have no trouble selling it or have done it already himself.

Make no mistake about it - Randy and now Hollis are aiming to downsize the club to the point where our revenue covers our costs (or thereabouts). And we may fall a division or two before that equilibrium is reached, because we are now incredibly risk-averse in terms of player investment compared to our risk-seeking attitude in the MON years. But the pieces are still worth less than the whole, so I can't see a break-up happening.

Exactly Dave.  Hollis has been appointed to ensure the club spends what it earns until a buyer comes forward.  I still think our lack of activity in the window was down to being unable to shift players out first.

The amount of times I have heard we are going to be asset striped in the last 24 hours is amazing

But Franksy said tonight that people on social media are saying Hollis has got experience of working for companies involved in asset stripping.  Therefore it must be true then and worth continually repeating on air.

Tom Fox has got experience of working at Arsenal but we're not signing Theo Walcott.

I wasn't being serious Dave, just pointing out the latest drivel he has come out with.  Franks surely can't believe it can he?  Unfortunately some of the callers who appear on the show do seem like the types who would buy into that kind of story, in which case Franks is on a big wind up or scaremongering.  Neither of which are very appropriate really.

I know you weren't serious. Nobody with any sense would give this story any credence at all - it's the sort of thing my mum comes out with because somebody she knows knows somebody who read it on Facebook and as I always say to her "Take a step back, look at it logically and ask yourself how likely it is". In this case, what assets are there to strip? A few landlocked acres in Aston and a load of green belt countryside. My mum never looks at it logically either.

I think they mean creaming off all the sky money merchandise etc till it gets to the point where lerner can sell it at a lower price but still get his money back that he wants.

A similar though crossed my mind, I haven't listened to it in years; even at its best it was crap.

I listened to BBC Radio London's coverage of the game last night, and it was bizarre. Both commentators seemingly wanted West Ham to win, and at no point did one of them start asking if Enner Valencia would get into the Spurs team, or whether West Ham would be able to hang on to Dimitri Payet in the summer. Are we the only team in the country where the local media actively hate us and always want us to fail?

I would liken it Chris to 1970's hospital radio, been out of the UK ten years and when I was there I would not listen to that crap, was that the one with the drooling Aussie, Ed something, for me then it was Tony and the prayer mat.

Poor old Ed Doolan now has dementia.  He still has a lunchtime slot on a Sunday.  Albeit it is just recorded interviews from the 1970's and 1980's.

I don't listen to radio much but plenty do. It seems people would be interested in listening to a station that provided supportive, or at not unfairly negative, reporting of the region's biggest club.

If they feel that the local station is failing to live up to that standard then it's fair enough to criticise, especially as it is publicly-funded.

I honestly don't know why I listen to it, I think it is just morbid fascination as to what ridonculousness they will come out with next.

This is true, but what we are debating is the attitude that our major local broadcaster has for the biggest club in their area. And we will remain the biggest club with the most support in their broadcasting area even when we are relegated.
How a seemingly serious presenter can give any credence at all to the asset stripping bollocks is a mystery, I assume at one point this bloke had dreams of becoming a proper journalist or something?

That's it for me as well. I've no idea why I tune in either because most of time it's absolute crap. I do have on Tom Ross on a Monday and a Friday though.

Talksport are doing a show on us later apparently direct for Villa Park according to one of my mates. They cover us every day and he reckons its essential listening.
whats the point of "The Moose" covering us? What more is there to say? we all know where we are and where we are headed? what possibly could be bringing to the table? villa cant score goals? check. villa didnt buy decent replacements? check. villa board havent got a clue or the slightest interest but think we doing ok cos we got a decent rate of shirt sales? check. villa relegated? check. end of

I suppose it helps them be sensationalist. I assume they do this sort of thing every season to whoever is in the shit.

The issue with Talk Sport, and many other broadcasters is that they comment on our club as if they know what they are talking about. The fact is that the vast majority of sport radio presenters and pundits have little interest in us at all and know fuck all. (You can throw in the MOTD crowd as well).
