Franks is from the critical side of journalism, those who seek ''balance'' , which means if we are good, find fault, and if we are poor, find more fault. For Franks there must be a caveat, always a but, a what if or a note of caution. The appeal is to older fans,[like me] who recall the glory days of late 70s, early 80s, [like me], and for whom the old days/teams were always better. Reality is different. , and because we are no longer top 4, does not mean we don't try . Yes 4 years ago we were level with Spuds, and since then they have spent mega bucks, not available any more at VP. I listen to Franks, especially when away from home, but take his pessimism with large lumps of salt. , after all he is a journalist looking to provoke!!!

That doesn't surprise me. Franks gets called on ploughing the same tedious lie he's been on for years, gets back as good as he gives so he insults and cuts off the caller.

Just had a listen, that chap was fantastic. Franskey is just an arse. He gives Wolves more praise than us and they're two divisions below.

Has it occurred to anyone that the reason why WM are on Villa's back and why a lot of our fans criticise is because the current position the club is in is frankly nowhere near good enough?!

How do you explain the drooling and happy clapping over Wolves who even though they've won a few games this season still aren't in the top 2 and shouldn't be in that division in the first place?

My guess is that like a lot of things, what gets people passionate is momentum rather than absolute level - Man U are still quite good, they're just heading downwards, which is getting some of their fans agitated.

We're not amazing, but there are signs of life, a young team and a mission to believe in which explains the better atmosphere at VP over the last 18 months.

Wolves have been pretty damn poor for a while and they've strung a few wins together so people start to get excited.

I meant the caller was funny coz he had him on the ropes.  I've never liked 'Wanksy' just think they are onto something with the topic.

They're onto nothing. It's a hobby horse with him the same as knocking Petrov used to be.

Maybe they think it is worth labouring the point about a total lack of ambition from the owner who is now no better than Doug on his best day...ie not spending one penny of his own cash.

To say, no, to constantly go on repeating, that an owner should be constantly bankrolling a club as the only way of hoping for success shows a disrespectful lack of faith in the abilities of both manager and players. I wouldn't mind it occasionally but it seems the only thing Paul Franks can ever say about the Villa.

I won't bother repeating the contrasting directions in which money has flowed from club to our last two chairmen.

It's going to turn into a Doug v Randy debate and we have done that to death on here.  However, I am not asking him to constantly bankrolling the club.  I am however in favour of him taking some more intelligent risks given that another guaranteed £60m per season for three seasons is now upon us.

As for WM, on the whole I like the station.  A couple of the presenters are utter cocks.  But if anyone thinks that they are wrong to pursue ownership and accountability at Villa for their decline since 2009 is in my opinion...well wrong.

As I said earlier - they can criticise all they like, provided they do it with balance. Did they ever have a bad word to say about Doug?
