I guess it's awkward to have a sub who can only play in one defensive position as it means he can only be brought on for one player (I'm presuming he's strictly a left back). I also hope we don't build our hopes up. He's cost £250k from the equivalent of non-league (with apologies to the LoI if that's not the standard) so please don't expect a world-beater. If he turns out as good as Mark Delaney that's great; if he doesn't make it, no big loss.

Given that Warnock's issue is primarily one of confidence, I'm not sure that will help to be honest.

Warnock really seems to just go to pieces very easily. It's unusual to see a footballer with that mentality because you wouldn't think they'd make it this far.

He does seem to be better away from home so I'm hoping he's in for a good game tomorrow. CNZ needs to give him enough support.

It is no co-incidence that our defence has looked shakey since the departure of Milner, he just about covered all the defenders.

Possibly League two but no higher. There are some good players to be found in the LOI as has been proved over the years but these are few and far between. A lot of LOI players seem to head to Scotland these days where the difference isn't so great.

nail on head. worked his bollocks off as did young and pre-breathing through his arse petrov. Plus they could keep the ball. no coincidence that since the midfield has degraded, the defence has looked steadily poorer. but Milner was the one - everything went through him.

Wouldn't mind giving him a try, can't, really can't be worse than the incumbent left back, surely.

Actually, Herd did a similar thing when he ws playing in midfield: his covering of the fullbacks was impressive.

Mcleish has clearly stated that Stevens is behind Baker and Lichaj. We may not even see him in the squad this season .......

From what I've seen of Stevens, as a person, he seems to have the right attitude. He seems like the kind of player who works on his game and maybe for his first few months at villa, he'd be best learning the trade. Playing in the Europa League for Rovers will have done him the world of good though.

Stevens hasn't even made the bench yet so I think he'll be sent on loan soon.

Main worry I had at the time is he didn't play in all the europa games for Shamrock which would be the best indication to how far away he is from prem standard.

Without checking, that could have been because of the death of his sister, but I'm not certain of that....

Isn't that the reason we let him stay there in the first place?

You can hardly force him to play if his head isn't right though.
