I thought he was crap and all those other things on RAWK in his first year and much of his time at boro. But I thought he was excellent last year. I think he's massively a confidence player and he doesn't have the same desire as others.

He hasn't got the mentality to perform at the real top level imo hence why he's never done much for England and has struggled under the spotlight at Liverpool.

A club like us or Spurs, on the fringes and with not as much attention was perfect for him to flourish.

Fair enough he's won a carling cup medal but he could easily have won that with us and he did win that with Boro.

He'll be finishing in a lower league position than he did for us and as for the champions league football he supposedly left for....

Never excellent.
Though good at times, he just never did enough.
I remember the Wolves game at home last year and I think it was Luke Young telling and pointing to Downing to pick up Jarvis. Downing didn't move an inch and Jarvis scored. Our Stewart walked back to the kick off like it was fuck all to do with him.
That fully qualifies him as a wanker in my humble opinion.

Bloke in front of me was a Downing fan.
I loved asking him on a regular basis "Is Downing playing today?"
He hated it and made the right sort of noises in defence of the weasel but you could just tell he felt let down...again.
