I'm 25, Irish and dislike them intensely. I just don't like their sense of superiority. Also, a lot of people that I don't get on with happen to be Liverpool fans. So them losing always gives me a little added satisfaction.

The thing about Liverpool is that if you are in your late 30s or 40s, you'll remember growing up with them winning pretty much everything, as well as getting media fawning that makes anything Man U get now look mild by comparison.

Back then you'd get next to no live league football on the telly, and when it was on, it was invariably Liverpool (Man United were doing their quarter of a century with no league titles thing at the time so attracted far less attention).

They also must be the luckiest club on the planet, too, but that's another argument.

Anyway, that's why so many people in my sort of age range still can't fucking stand Liverpool, I reckon.

Spot on.  As far as I'm concerned they were a mediocre club - traditionally second best to Everton - that somehow got on the flukiest roll of success in the latter half of the twentieth century.  They definitely had plenty of money pumped into their rise to the top, more than they are willing to admit, too.  Hearing their fans go on about history and tradition when they have only been significant fairly recently, in football terms, really does make me roll my eyes.   They are a second rate club compared to Aston Villa.

And anyone here who hasn't been to Anfield should give it a go...just to get some measure of the nonsense the media has spewed about them over the years.  They represent the ultimate nightmare for me - a Birmingham City with trophies.  I feel sorry for Evertonians.

I'm 24 and I still can't stand them. It's the fans. They're still a disgrace even now.

Their away support is amongst the worst we see at Villa Park, year in, year out, I reckon. Everton's is even worse.
Worst in what sense Paulie?

Lots of them, but make next to zero noise. There aren't many fans who sell the whole allocation every year but are so very quiet. As I said, those two, plus frequently Arsenal.

I hate Man United's arrogant travelling supporters, but they're usually the noisiest year after year

This year we only heard them twice singing about the Fleeing Weasel.

I loathed them for the media spawned idea their fans were a laugh a minute and some kind of working class poets. They were vicious, violent and (late 70's) racist bullies.

Do you play "Istanbul Bingo" on European nights? Great fun...

I quite liked them when I was a nipper. S. Gerrard and the Barry saga are what really turned me against them. They can be playing any team I hate and I always want them to lose, except small heath.

Plus I've spent so much time predicting their demise I desperately want to be right about that.

That's because Everton actually only have one song, maybe two if they're feeling adventurous.  And each of these is them basically singing the same word over and over.

Other than Small Heath, 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' are the next team I love to hate too for exactly the reasons Paulie outlined.

I hate Lplop more than any other club. The only time i want Ure to win is when they play them.

Someone on here summed up my feelings towards their, i reluctantly call them supporters, when he said "They think they invented the game".I find them more arrogant , more nauseating than the other lot of glory-hunters.

Hate them with a passion. As a football team of the 70s and 80s, and even 90s, i admired them, can't stand the supporters though.

To be fair, in living memory, they have been so, so, so much more successful than we have.

Although, you're right, they are a second-rate club compared to the Villa, but you could say that about anyone else. Spizz said it best; the sun never sets on Aston Villa.

No....that is what Manchester United are. Scum fans that won't be reasoned with and always up for a scrap. Utter ******. And that club has been representing the English game abroad for decades. Total wankers.

Ku Klux Kenny is and always was a c**t.

Correct, I can't stand that pug faced little scrote. How dare he disrespect us.
I can't see Downing being overawed when he's moved from a club on the fringes of the top 6 and a 40 something thousand seater stadium to... a club on the fringes of the top 6 and a 40 something thousand seater stadium.

Fact is he bought another massively expensive pup and he can't admit a msitake, ever. Almost a hundred million pissed away. Pardew has built a more convincing team with a fraction of the money from one player sold to Liverpool.

Anyway, how hilarious is it that their owners wanted to push a deal through for Downing because of one of those faked videos we had done on AVTV? I nearly pissed my pants when I read that.
If only they'd seen some of the others, we'd have got £30 million for Carew hitting the Villa badge with the faulty light.

When I see Liverpool and their fans now, I like to think I'm staring into a crystal ball and seeing what Man Utd fans will be in a few years time.

Football is a cyclical game by nature, so when they stop winning things they'll be spouting of on past glories and trying to pretend that a 20 year spell in history defines them more than their overall history.  If you take out Liverpool's glory years and Man Utd's Fergie years, then what is the real difference between them and the likes of us, Spurs or Everton?

Everton used to have two - "Everton Everton Everton" and "duh duh duh Andy Johnson" but then they sold Andy Johnson.

I quite like and respect Everton as a club, though, they're extremely similar to us in a lot of ways, but their fans always seem to have a chip on their shoulders about us.

Yeah, but John, that surely renders it a pointless comparison - "if you put to one side the fact that they've won the title twelve times, the European Cup twice and four FA Cups in 19 years, their record isn't much different from ours" is a bit like saying "if you ignore her face, body and legs, Elle MacPherson isn't really that much better looking than Sonia from Eastenders"

Did anyone spot 'king Kenny's new hairstyle at the weekend?  I don't know whether it was just down to it being a bit windy, but it's the first time it's looked any different since 1977.

I like Everton as well, they are so much like us. An away game at Everton 'feels like' a game at VP. Goodison Park is in a similar area , the pubs are a bit like the ones around our ground. In the pubs fans are moaning about the same things we moan about. We even draw against each other a lot. The goal they let in Saturday was so Villa-esque and so was the type of team they failed to beat (like us they will think they have a divine right to beat certain teams).

That said the similarities disappear once inside Goodison, which is surely the worst 'Big Club' stadium in the country.

Everton fans are such moaning tossers though. There is no atmosphere at Goodison, just different levels of whinging.

The boring racist arseholes.
