I was accussed of being in the IRA by a load of Baggies fans in a pub near Hampstead (cant remember name), because I supported the Villa.

Were you wearing a balaclava and refusing food at the time?

Everybody has Irish ancestry.
When aliens do make contact no doubt they will have family in Kerry.

Is it because Irish people aren't stupid and Blues are fucking shite?

Winner.
Many years ago I asked my dad why we all supported Villa and not Blues, he said it was because 'they' were shite.

There was our little Irish invasion in the 50s with Danny Blanchflower and Con Martin (centre-half, right and left back, midfielder and for several games, goalkeeper).

I'll go along with that but do wonder if there were any Irish Villa players that predate Blanchflower, as there was certainly a large Irish community in the city before the early 50's.

There was a large Irish population in Aston in the 19th century, so it's easy to imagine that some of our players in the very early days were Irish.

Davey Walsh and Con Martin were the first Villa players (1950's) to play for the republic but they also played for the North as well.  Until a latter day Sepp Blatter said No.

When my dad got off the train at New St a copper directed him to Small Heath where he found digs. When I asked him why he supported us and not the 'noses he told me that he drank in the Small Arms pub and all the Irish lads were Villa and that was that.

All the people I grew up with or met in the Irish community were Villa, or glory hunters, I can't recall any Small heath fans at all.

Wouldn't the Small Arms pub be a Scottish rather Irish pub?

Edit: BSA. I'm with you now, Nev.

My Auntie Cissie had a lodging house in Ivor Road and she insisted that all her gentlemen lodgers were Villa fans.   She also banned drinking in The Antelope.   It was The Bear or nothing.

Her husband, my Uncle Harry did not give a shit, he was too busy with my father throwing their money away on horses and greyhounds.

I’m just English. Family came over with Big Willy nearly a 1000 years ago and we’ve been ruling you peasant folk ever since. Which I guess makes me a Viking originally.

But no matter who impregnated your grandmother; be he an Irishman, an Englishman, a Scott or a Welshman, you’ll all agree, even the Mrs Lovejoy’s out there just thinking of the children, that Stuart Downing is a massive cuntflap.

Apparently the club have issued a statement claiming that hitting women is culturally acceptable in Middlesbrough.
