Nope, it definitely isn't.

As the original poster has confirmed. In fact, as the English language confirms by reading his post properly.

You should have worked on Suarez's defence.

Oh bullshit. He was stereotyping the Irish. Please don't try and excuse him by claiming he was only talking about the Irish who settled in Liverpool like they were a different breed of Irish. That's like claiming the blacks who settled in Handsworth were a different breed to the blacks who settled in Sutton Coldfield.
Offensive stereotyping. No excuses.

Are you pretending to be slow on the uptake, or genuinely actually that dim?

Here's what he said, again. Read it nice and slowly and try to understand it one more time, then see if you can work out how that is "stereotyping the Irish"

if he's having a pop at anyone, it is Scousers. Which seems to be fair play, as even the most cursory of glances on this site would reveal.

One more time. Try and get it this time.

He's saying this:

- lots of irish people left Ireland to get away from poverty and improve their lives (which isn't a negative thing)

- Liverpool (large Irish population, geographically the first port of call) consists of those who couldn't be arsed to go any further - unlike, say, those who went on to the US.

Quote
Not so much of surprise when most of the population have Irish ancestry.

It also helps explain another Scouse trait: sitting on their arses complaining that life's not giving them a fair crack.

Think about it. For generations the Irish have fled poverty and famine to create world-wide diaspora.  Liverpool's population is made from the same gene pool that said at the nearest port of debarkation, "Right that'll do for me.  Where's the Dole Office?"

The usual condescending bullshit from our resident smarmy mod.

It's hard not to be condescending to someone so utterly fucking slow on the uptake.

I don't have any hidden agenda re protecting the original poster, and am as tough as any other mod on the racism issue.

It's just that you've had it explained to you about 5 times now, and you still don't seem to have understood it.

incidentally, he even explained the origins of what he said - paraphrased from a drama written by scouser of irish descent Jimmy McGovern.

If you've realised you've got it massively wrong and are just trying to save face, nod twice and we'll understand.

I don't accept your explanation, I don't agree with it. Does your ego allow anyone to disagree with you without you resorting to your usual aggressive, smug and sarcastic manner?

Agreed. How dare anyone take issue with such stereotyping. The mods have confirmed it wasn't offensive. Who are we to argue?

Of course it does.

The problem is, you've quite clearly failed to understand what the poster said. It's not difficult.

For Crying out Loud, it may not be comfortable to accept that the culture of Liverpool is different from the rest of England and the reasons behind that culture is historic, but unless you are able to give a different explanation, just calling the mods aggresive and smug does not help your arguement

Again I have to inform you that I don't agree with your explanation. I found it offensive and so have a few others on here. The original posters can hide behind as many quotes from McGovern as he likes. It won't wash with me.

Mods - I'm sorry that what was meant to be a light-hearted, if perhaps ill-worded quip has caused you so much grief. I've tried to explain the origin and my interpretation - which has been said rather spoils a joke.

To those who've taken offence - there was none intended, except to people from Liverpool.

And neither does it help mods who resort to aggression and insults because someone dares to disagree with them.

saunders_heroes, FWIW you're coming across to me as someone who has taken offence at a post, which you're perfectly entitled to, but won't rest until you have validation by all other posters that your offence is justified.

An apology to our Irish posters wouldn't go amiss either.
