Who are we trying to kid? Downing's a good player who I'd much rather still have in our side. This thread stinks of sour grapes.  It's not as if N'Zogbia's been any better for us than Downing's been for Liverpool.

You should spend a few minutes reading RAWK and see what Liverpool fans currently think of him.  One poster even suggested he wouldn't even get in the Villa side now.

Who said anything to the contrary?

Most people seem to be implying he's an untrustworthy human-lizard hybrid, and are also laughing at his failure to make any impact at all at Liverpool.

Premier league assists on merseyside this season:
The Wind - 1
Downing - 0

That genuinely made me lol

I wonder of his dive against Man City will endear him to the dippers?

my feelings exactly. He's a complete wanker for what he did. I'm not contesting whether he was a good player for us, because he was. I'm massively glad he's been a flop at Liverpool and I wish nothing more on him than failure to qualify for the CL, and an ankle break ahead of the European Champions.

its certainly not sour grapes from me, i never thought he was any good before we bought him, he did nothing to change my opinion when he was here, and is performing at his normal  level  of crapness at Liverpool.

you can check back through my post history, i've never had a good word to say about him.
if we saw the best of Downing last year, then his best is overated hype in my view,

i do agree with you re N'zog though, he has been patheticaly useless for most of the season, although the last few games there has been some improvment, however the one small crumb of comfort that i hold out for with N'Zog is that his best for Wigan i believe is better than Downings best for Villa [last season] so if both players ever play again to there maximum, then we have the better player.

Completely agree, and he never looked like a 12m player for us let alone a 20m+ player.
Never rated him, maybe he should move to Celtic might look good up there.

Defo not sour grapes from me.  He just pissed me off for saying how he loved the club and wanted to sign a new deal and then suddenly changing his mind and going to LFC where he has been piss poor (thats the bit i love).  Liverpool hate him and cant believe they paid £20m for him.  One fan at my work place even said if he were manager of LFC that he would pay us to take him back.  Like they say, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.  He can make it at clubs on our level and to a certain extent can be forgiven for making mistakes in games but at clubs like LFC and Man Utd etc, they are not so forgiving.
He is a C**t and im glad he is pants at LFC.  Even Tim Howard has got more goals than him lol

He played reasonably well in a Villa side that was pretty shite for most of the season. No more, no less.
