I would say that all other things being equal, Nike kits would probably sell more than Macron kits, due to the younger generation preferring brands like Nike.  However, Nike's generally uninspiring designs and inability to get the shirts out on time would probably have a negative effect that outweighs the "benefit" to sales of them being a bigger brand.  If Macron deliver a nice design that is out early enough in the summer, they'll do just fine.

New Nike Brazil shirts...boring

http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/official-brazil-nike-shirts-201213_14440

It's a bit difficult to do much with the most iconic football shirt in the world.

Simple and effective.  I did like the Italy shirt for the 2006 World Cup though, very classy.

edit: (thought it was Nike, actually Puma so no real relevance)

Oh my god we are gonna have a shirt made by Macron, lets burn down Villa Park.
Seriously, how can people be moaning about this when they haven't see the shirt yet ?
If it's a hideous monstrosity then fine, whinge about it then but get a grip.
Who gives a shit who makes it, if it looks good then that is the be all and end all.
If it upsets you that much maybe you should be on a bloody Nike obsessed forum.
UTV not Nikerules!

I have no idea about the hierarchy in the world of the "chav" but am I right in saying that Adidas and Nike would be the brands of choice for them? Perhaps the people getting their knickers in a twist are a little worried about hanging around outside Spar in second-rate leisurewear, opening themselves up to a barrage of abuse from fellow "chavs".

"Don't argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level"...its best I dont argue with the idiots that dont see the bigger picture and the potential financial consequences of this change in kit manufacturer. Its also nice to know that someone who happens to have a different (and justified) opinion to your own can be labelled as an idiot on here.

For the record, I'm far too old to be a chav however I do like to wear Nike and adidas for both sports activities and as leisure wear around the house as it is very comfortable. Just because these are my favourite/preferred brands does not in any way make me a "chav", and likewise, just because I have a different opinion doesnt make me an "idiot".

When all is said and done, Macron may provide a better service and design/manufacture a better kit, so we'll just have to wait and see...as we shall to see if the deal could actually be more profitable or has an impact on sales figures.

There does seem to be a surfeit of people taken in by the advertising.  Lets face it at the end of the day it's claret with blue sleeves and needs no design work really since Umbro completed the job in 1974. It's a licence to print money and it's a desirable item because it has the Aston Villa F.C. badge on it not the fucking nike scrawl or the adidas pile of used bricks or the puma pussy

Its not about advertising; its about having a strong sports brand providing kit and merchandise. If an identical kit was produced by both Macron and adidas, I can guarantee that more adidas shirts would be sold. I'm already preparing for fans of other clubs taking the piss out of the Macron shirts..."Macron, who are they?!"...I can almost hear it now.

Yes it is just a shirt worn by the players at the end of the day, but if we had an adidas kit and merchandise, I can honestly say that I would have probably spent a few hundred quid on shirt, training tops and leisure wear; I wont be spending a penny on anything with a Macron label. I suspect the same will apply to thousands of other Villa fans resulting in a massive drop in a guaranteed revenue stream.

Then they're idiots as well.
So I'm an idiot for not wanting to purchase a kit or merchandise made by Macron. I may well remember that next time I'm about to purchase my copy of H&V.

If you're really worried about having quality, branded clothing, and you assuage those worries by buying Nike and/or Adidas, then you are indeed a grade A idiot.

I personally don't care about those things, but I care enough to know that if I, as an adult, was attempting to impress my peers by cladding my imperfect body in those labels...well, I'd be a clueless bell-end.

Not that I'm not a clueless bell-end, mind.

Honestly, Nike and Adidas are 'more comfortable around the house'? Are your other clothes made of foil?

If "the bigger picture" means not buying something regardless of its quality but just because it's made by the 'wrong' manufacturer, then I'm glad I can't see it.

I personally haven't bought a replica shirt or years because I find that 40-50 quid is a lot of money to spend on something that I think looks and feels terrible. Nothing to do with who manufactures them at all. I have bought far more training jumpers than shirts in recent years.

If Macron make a decent shirt, I'll buy one. Have a look on that link to Macron posted earlier and see for yourself just how many kits look as bad as the silly checkerboard effort we're currently modelling. I personally think the Napoli and Braga home strips look excellent. The AZ one would do for me, too. In claret and blue, obviously.

Foil? Foil?! I should be so lucky! :D

Anyway, my personal leisure wear preferences dont really have anything to do with this...its about business and money, and I'm merely pointing out that sales could be badly affected. Personally, I havent purchased a Nike kit for years and I doubt that will change with Macron, however I expect that sales will decrease as a direct consequence.

If the club have managed to secure a deal that happens to be more lucrative regardless of sales, then the correct word that should be used will be "genius" rather than "idiot".

Mate, it's a damn sight cheaper and you'd last longer at London Fashion Week before getting turfed out.
