Alex McLeish reckons his Aston Villa side are too quiet and wants them to be noisier and more aggressive - with one another!Villa are yet to win away this season in the Premier League and face a tough run of festive fixtures, starting on Saturday at lowly Bolton. The Brummies have conceded last-minute goals at Sunderland and QPR this term to turn winning positions into draws. And boss McLeish said: “I want fists clenched in the last minutes and mental resilience saying, ‘We are not conceding here!’“We are quite a quiet team. I would like to see more of a fieriness about us when we get to those situations - a wee bit of body language at Sunderland to say, 'We are defending this with our lives.'“I want a siege mentality in the box and the same with the QPR last-minute equaliser.“It has to be down to the character of the players. Players have to be prepared to fall out with people on the training field and the pitch.“They are as quiet a bunch as I have worked with, and we are trying to get them to come out of their shells a little bit.“The one thing that is difficult to get 100 per cent right is the mind of players.”
And now McLeish reckons he isn't a negative manager, and that if the fans considered the facts they'd see that his teams do indeed play entertaining football. The poor, deluded fool.
Hands up who thought it was better under O Leary? I'll be honest my hand is beginning to creep up, worryingly so, of its own free will. If McLeish starts moaning about us already, he's fucked. At least O Leary had a decent first season (in fairness, from xmas onwards that year) and we played some reasonable stuff when we got Solano. I'll also half expect us to have another Doncaster horror this season when we play Bristol Rovers in the cup. The worst part is, after all the money invested in managers, I just don't see Randy paying to fuck McLeish off, then forking out to hire someone else. We're stuck with this wretched brand of clueless, dull as dishwater, football. And our easy start grace has worn off. Easy starts, mean tougher run-ins, and if we start on a run of defeats, we could find ourselve staring into the Championship trap door. (Just got the Trap Door theme in my head!)
This is how it always happens. People have decided they don't like him so everything is then twisted and ridiculous conclusions drawn. He is absolutely right to emphasise the need for more character from the players and that a siege mentality in the last couple of minutes at QPR and Sunderland (let's not forget that we were in front due to playing some decent attacking football) would have made a huge difference. That's 4 more points we'd have if they'd been more resilient.Similarly he's not criticising fans he's giving a different point of view and it really does take the biscuit for people who gave spent weeks slagging him at every opportunity to become all precious about him responding.

Now all we get is he was crap at both clubs.

Nobody's being precious about anything, just pointing out that he isn't an entertaining manager, and that if we do indeed look at the facts as he suggests, they do absolutely nothing to back his claim up. His Blues team last year were a disgrace, and we're not much better.
