Thank God that this is all over.

Not my first choice to be honest - but now he's here I hope he not only improve our results but also our football.

Now ... on to the coming and going speculation...

We could be in for a few surprises.

He must be given 2 seasons, one "ok-ish" one and the second being a "movin' on up" one. Then a new, improved contract, and the money to boot.
He's a Fergie type appointment in my book.
There will be shit games and great games. Lets give him time and I think he'll be the right man.
Welcome Paul.

Bloody hell, just got back from work to find this out.Good news at last.
Norwich fans are a bit bitter though.Oh well, things will be ok when they get McLeish as their new boss!

They were an awful lot less concerned when Lambert did the same to Colchester when he joined Norwich. He's a very ambitious man, and he'll do exactly the same to us, but that's football. They're a bunch of idiots if they thought he'd shaft Colchester and not do the same to them when he got the chance.

They poached him after just three games of the 2009-2010 season. He left Colchester on the morning of a midweek game. It doesn't really compare with asking for permission to speak to him at the end of May.

Also, it is nice to see a reference on the OS from someone likee Hitzfeld rather than, I dunno, Kris Boyd or someone.

Fergie you mean ;)

Even worse! Someone none-too-bright with a wrong opinion? Bad enough. Fergie patronising us to death for one of his old mates? I can't think of much more damning.

You can forget your fucking guaranteed 6 points now red nose!!!

Talk seems to be that Norwich want Hughton as their manager so appointing Bertie could have the side effect of costing Blues their manager. Bonus.

Man in his early 40s takes on Aston Villa as his 5th job in football management. Amongst his previous clubs where he enjoyed success was Norwich City.

Paul, welcome to Villa.

My preferred choice from day one. Will bring stability, passion, discipline and hopefully a bit of excitment to VP again.

I have a soft spot for Norwich, so I am disappointed they've lost a good manager but I'm absolutely delighted he's headed to Villa! This has the makings of a great appointment.

Yeah, I've always liked Norwich too but it's business innit. Listening to him in an interview at Carrow Road on SSN the other evening he seemed to say he was happy and the speculation was just that. I suppose that's the difference between paper talk and an actual offer being made. And he'll probably drop us like a hot stone in 4 years after getting us Champions League and an FA Cup and fuckin' Spurs come calling. As long as we get success though.

I wonder if he sounded out MON about the job. In fairness to Woody Allen's errant, bastard offspring he did seem to show a bit of contrition about leaving Villa suddenly on the eve of the season in one of the interviews he gave around the time we played Sunderland in April and that Villa were still a huge club etc.  He'd probably just tell Lambert not to take any shit from Faulkner.

Oh, and nowt to do with his management but when doing a search for him on youtube earlier, this peach of a goal by him in an Old Firm derby game popped up and it's well worth watching:
