I prefer this bit in the same post "anyone who does not want to play or manage our fantastic club should just f**k off. Holt and Lambert are greedy mercenary bastards."

I wonder if the poster has any sympathy for Shrewsbury or Colchester?

In 3 years time if he is going to a bigger job, it will 1. mean he has cut down his options to at the most 4-6 clubs, and will have done a bloody good job here and mean we can get someone of good calibre to replace him. Hopefully though, he will stay 5-6 years and give us that stability.

If he's so good as to get to the next level then we will have our best spell as a club in who knows how many years. And even the competition at the very top is fierce. Moyes has stayed at Everton for 10 years because the biggest jobs have come up and he hasn't been considered. At the very top of the game you get picked, you don't apply.

That's how I feel, Heard a lot of people on different radio call in's and people at work saying that Lambert is to good for us, that we are not a step up and that he'll use us to get to the next level.

To get to the next level and get a job such as Arsenal, Chelsea or Manure then he would have to do something amazing with us first over a 4-5 year period and if he does do those things such as getting champions league football and winning a cup or 2 then I personally would have a grudge if he moved on. I felt the same about Solskjear when people said he would leave us after a couple of years to go to Manure, I wouldn't have had a problem with that because it would of meant that he had worked wonders with us first.

And to get picked, you have to do amazingly well, or have a club that have fallen from grace. Look at Rodgers, he has got one in front of Lambert because of the way he plays the game, Lambert has to prove himself in the upper echelons before he will get one of the top 4-6 clubs. Chelsea will always go exotic and big name, so will Man City, Man United will time Fergie going with Mourinho being ready to come in I am sure, and no one has a clue how Arsenal might go, but I would wager someone with CL experience and proven record. Leaving Spurs and Liverpool in that next bracket, but I honestly think if he has been successful enough to be considered for the above, we will be pretty close to the 4-6th place clubs anyhow and he won't need to go.

Correct. If he's done that well then we'll be in that top 5 or 6 club conversation anyway. What might tempt him down the road is a stint in a foreign league like Germany. I get the impression that he'd be broad minded enough to try that. Still, that's a long way off and there is really no point thinking that far ahead. Appointments or transfers should never be made with the fear that if successful the player or manager might leave.

I look forward to seeing such displays of balanced rationality when he walks out on us to take over from fergie . . . Worth keeping this thread for posterity!!

All that profit made on pwning Liverpool for Downing was flushed down the bogs in compo for O'Neill, Houllier and Fookin'Eck (aquiring him and paying him off!) so it would be nice if our transfer kitty was unaffected by what it takes to get our man.

You are obviously young. Message boards in the 80's were exactly like that one!
