The European cup with Dennis and Alan Evans is wrongly labelled as Mortimer and Morley.

The Tony Daley picture is not taken from one of our runners-up seasons either, the kit's wrong.

Still, some good pictures in there.

Yeah, that was the infamous makita tornament. I remember being surrounded by Sampdoria fans who stunk to high heaven.

Knocking down the original Trinity is the worst act of vandalism ever associated with our football club. Visiting Villa Park has never been the same to me since.

I agree. He should be ashamed.

Truly evocative photos there. So proud. And as others have said, losing the old Trinity was bad enough, but to see what replaced it? Shameful.

The old Trinity was a lovely looking stand, but some of the views of the pitch were really shit, especially the bottom tier.

.

I reckon that it is from the pre-season Makita Tournament at Wembley in August 1990. The semi-final against Arsenal was on the Friday night, so the bright sunshine would indicate it was the Saturday afternoon when we lost the third place match to a Kevin Richardson-inspired Real Sociedad.

Not the most auspicious of starts for Dr Venglos...

We wore the white/black away kit v Arsenal.

But you would agree the new stand is a terrible replacement for such a grand structure? Sure the views are better, but look at it! They could have built something more aesthetically pleasing as a replacement for such a fine stand.

Pitch side, the Trinity Road was due for refurbishment as the seats we're rather uncomfortable. However, The Trinity Road façade should have remained and been incorporated into the building plans for the rebuilding.

It was an act of vandalism by Ellis who wanted it removed and a complete new stand rebuilt as another living testament to his memory.

Sorry to go off-topic and just my opinion of course.

Never apologise for posting that, marvellous.
I was in the Army back then and on pre-Bosnia training somewhere in Kent, we were given the night off to watch this on the telly as a couple of our officers were Villa fans, I was consequently given the next morning off as well being the only Villa 'other rank' because they insisted on pouring much brandy down my neck in celebration.

Well he certainly achieved that.  I can't think of a more fitting testament to Herbert's involvement with Aston Villa than the hideous Lego warehouse he threw up in place of that magnificent stand.  That, and naming the Witton Lane after himself, make the modern Villa Park a monument to his thrift and his ego.  I'll certainly never forget what he did for us.  Sorry, to us.

I was at Wembley on the Saturday and (poor memory) I thought we drew vs Real Sociedad.  some great photo's on there and they have now been added to my Villa photo screensaver at work.

Looks to me like the Makita tournament at wembley before the start of the 90/91 season
