Only a toddler or a goldfish could conceive this as the lowest point.

Just the lowest point of the season, surely? It wasn't a surprising result, though we seemed very tame and lacklustre and gave it away all too easily.

I think worse is to come; we're holding our own in the main against ordinary teams and when we play the better teams, and other ordinary sides on form, we'll be exposed. But overall, I agree with Kevin Gage - we're a bit shit, but we won't go down, and I can see a couple of seasons of treading water before we start moving forward again.

For what it's worth, that defeat at Doncaster is about the worst I can remember, especially with O'Leary not understanding why everyone was so angry about it.

The good news is....

We're still in the FA Cup.

And it's our year, this time.

When I saw the result I've got to admit I shrugged my shoulders and made sure I avoided going on H & V.  A couple of years ago I would have been mortified.  If we beat QPR then things will be a lot brighter but it'll probably be a draw.

Of course it's not the lowest point, but it feels pretty bloody disappointing all the same I have to say.  The sooner Lerner sells up and fucks off, the better.

Presumably to one of the string of billionaires sitting there waiting to buy a football club. Then they can put in a fortune. Then as soon as something goes wrong you can say "He's shit. He's useless. He should sell up." And the cycle can start again.

To use the long and forgotten worlds of the General- "this is where we are".
Nothing us fans can do about it,get used to it.
It will be long hard season and we will survive.....just.

Yes, this is truth. This is the fault of Sky and gullible people

Just the lowest point so far this week.

The Doncaster 3 - 0 game will always stick with me. Got back from the game with my 11 year old son and said to him we'd talk about the game in the morning.

The next morning came and in the cold light of day I said to him I'd understand if he wanted to go off and support someone else as I didn't want him to suffer like I had to.

His response brought a tear to the eye and I think about it whenever we have a crap result or a period of prolonged crapness - "Dad, no chance you've got to be in it for the long haul, I'll support villa forever". He did follow it up with "It could be worse you could be like Grandad and be a Sunderland fan" mind!!

If you go back through the records, there have been loads of defeats like that in the League Cup. It was not our lowest point by far.
Regarding team selection, I don't think that McLeish had too many options.
We bought Jenas who immediately suffers the new player injury curse that has plagued us for years.
As for Ireland, he put in more tackles last night than he has ever done before. Somebody needed to do that in midfield.
Richard Dunne won nearly every tackle and put in a good, honest performance.
Gabby is starting to show more composure on the ball and will thrive when we eventually sort the midfield out.
Petrov has always been the scapegoat and sometimes I wonder if people who slag him off appreciate the effort that he puts in.
Looking forward to QPR. I want us to win and won't be on here crowing if we fail to do so.

The Doncaster Rovers game surely has to be up there with the worst ever for Villa, especially when it was compounded the next morning with the 'Don and Dusted' headline.

Infact:

The only bigger pisstake back page of The Sun i can ever recall was the somewhat funny 'Frog on the Tyne' when Man U went to Newcastle, hauled back the 12 points and Cantona scored the winner.

Lowest point ?

I can only assume the days of GT2 or DOL have been forgotten very quickly
