His perfromance was even lauded by Paul McGrath as being one of the best he had ever seen.

Yes it's true Ger, a true legend  like Paul Mc Grath declared to appreciate Dunne.
Obviously I have read it.
He may have played a great game against Russia, but I remain of my opinion because I have a different vision! The world would be so boring if everyone had the same vision, wouldn't it be? :-)

Indeed it would Archie.

You should be a good lawyer Chris, no doubt about this.
Your analysis is very deep and accurate. But the fact is that we have two different ideas of the defensive play.

My referring points are players like Nesta, Thiago Silva, Paul Mc Grath, etc. The wages of Dunne are so high that he should be compared to these legends.
Well, he is miles away from them.
He is not able to build from the back, he's  only capable to belt the ball clear (a pre-historic style of football), he is overrated and overpaid, and, I don't know if you agree at least on this point, he's the most errorv prone player of the Premier League..

Titus Bramble, Jamie Carragher ?

Touchče, Ger!  ;)

I don't think you came blame Dunne for their first goal really, it was a clever bit of play from Cahill.

I'm glad we showed character to come back from behind twice, even if it was'nt one of our better perfomances. I thought Fellani was very good for them as well.

Overall, a good point in a game we could and probably should have lost. 3 points next week and it'll be a solid start for us.

Good point.... Again...

Our performance was very worrying, but at least he made changes to try and win the game.

I'm up for either Starting Bannan in place of Heskey or Switching to a 442 with Marc Albrighton in for Heskey.

We were beaten too often by players like Coleman and Bilyaletdinov and Fellaini and Osman were a constant threat going forward. Luckily Dunne was back to his heroics shown in midweek

Absolutely don't agree, mate. IMO Dunne has returned to be the average player that he's always been, he's probably the most error prone player in the world. Did you see the way he conceded the first goal to Osman completetly unmarked? It was comic.

Sorry Archie but you've got that badly wrong. Dunne had a stormer yesterday, without him and Given we'd have lost the game. It was good movement by Osman and Cahill that created the first goal.

I agree that it was a good movement by Osman and Cahill that created the first goal. Osman just placed his shot perfectly. I doubt that any gk would have saved that goal. There might be an argument that Collins was drawn away from position by Cahill's movement to the right. As Osman found position Dunne moved back to cover a gaping hole  that was left by Coillins marking Cahill. Dunne was stuck in no mans land because he was also covering back to block off any potential ball to the left of the goal to either Osman or Bilyaletdinov who was in the process of starting a run to the far post with Alan Hutton a couple of yards off his man.
.
Once Dunne was committed to the cover there was little he could do about Osman's shot. Neither he or Hutton were in a position to have stopped Osman's shot. I wouldn't fault Dunne or Hutton. Cahill's movement with the ball was very good and his pass to Osman was perfect. Sometimes a ball is unplayable by the defence, not because of poor defending but awesome attacking work . Kudos to Everton on that one. It was a great goal.

Although lucky we deserved something for the fight shown in the second half. I think N'Zogbia needs a few more games to show his undoubted ability - I think it does take time to settle in (Milner and Downing took time) - some posters on these boards can't see that and are quick to write payers of if they don't perform 8/9 out of 10 every week. Charlie will come good soon. Definitely start with Bannan and drop Heskey next match. I can't understand why AM leaves Ciaran Clark out - he was excellent last season, one of our brightest hopes - I would start him ahead of Delph at the moment.

Just seen the goals and I have to say that after last year's dive over a non-existent Makoun challenge. I think we were stitched up by Jagielka for a penalty the second time in two seasons.   For me Delph clearly has his eyes on the ball and  makes a jump for it, and Jagielka runs into him and then falls over like he's been shot.   If anything it was a foul on Delph for dangerous play, Jagielka having taken him out mid air.  Maybe the ref was making amends for the Bannan penalty incident which I haven't seen.

After the promise of much better football under GH, it does sound like, as expected, we are becoming a very dull, negative and predictable team under Eck, and I'm still waiting for his "horses for courses" philosophy to start.   So far it's like MON without the "flair".

At least we don;t seem to give up easily, so that's something I suppose.

The problem was that Delph jumped much too early, the ball was still 20 foot in the air so he was putting himself in a position where any contact would be deemed a foul.

I must say, for an all round 'proper' footballing team, the Everton team don't half dive a lot.

No complaints from me about the penalty , Delph was careless and made contact with the player, Everton fans really do put pressure on the refs but i thought the ref had a decent enough game.

Surprised anyone could criticise Dunne yesterday -i thought he was excellent.

You mean we had flair under MON? I must have missed that bit....

Agreed. If anything, from the bits I managed to watch online he seemed to give us most of the 50/50 decisions. And I think the Bannan challenge should have been a penalty as well.
