Young had a habit of hanging a leg out and catching the defender, Jack has a habit of putting his body between the defender and the ball and making them foul him.  I think Young bought a lot of fouls, Jack buys a few, too, but he earns far more by making defenders come through him.

Young always went down easily. I seem to recall him buying a couple of cheap free kicks that led to goals against Small Heath. I didn't particularly applaud him for it but I didn't particularly knock it for him either.

I do wonder what our perception of Grealish on this regard will be like once he goes?

Behold, a heretic

I have always thought we had the best of Ashley, he tormented defences and his crossing and spot kicks were spot on. I believe the amount of rough treatment handed out to him took it's toll and his game dropped off and he started looking for the free kick. Great career though.

One less ex-Villa player still playing.

Gareth Barry has just announced his retirement.

One of the villa legends by all accounts.
And most premier league appearances ever !
Cheers Gareth Barry.

Wonder if he'll get into coaching and management think he has the footy intelligence to do well.

To be fair he was always good at buying a cheap free kick in his Villa days. To Small Heath's cost on a few occasions.

I think there's a fair chance, I seem to remember reading somewhere he'd already taken some of his coaching badges.

It doesn't seem right that a player whose debut I remember watching so clearly can be old enough to retire...!

Shame he had to blot his legacy by having to play for them. Would have loved him back at Villa in his last few years .
To be ousted by Jake Livermore is a sorry way to go.
On WBA they are going straight back down .if you thought our strikers were struggling they have nonesxitsence in that squad.
Someone tell Callum Robinson not go back there!

I'm happy for WBA to sign Callum Robinson, especially if they think he's the sort of forward that will score the goals to keep them up.

His Wikipedia picture shows him in a Villa kit. He looks the dead spit of 'Lee' off of Gogglebox, the guy who watches telly with the blonde woman in his caravan.

He has had almost £25m spent on him in transfer fees, played alongside Usain Bolt and once missed training because his electric gates would not open.

Now former Scotland striker Ross McCormack is back in English football after joining National League side Aldershot Town on a one-year contract.

"It wasn't a hard decision to make to be honest (on joining the club), but now is the right time to come back and get going again in England," said the ex-Aston Villa, Fulham and Leeds man.

McCormack has never played in the Premier League, but he was prolific at Championship level for Cardiff, Leeds and Fulham, scoring 116 league goals in eight seasons.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has joined Pafos in the Cypriot First Division. No competitive goals yet but scored 7 in a single pre-season friendly game, a 9-0 victory against a Riga FC XI.

I always assumed Cypriot teams just played in the Greek leagues. You live and learn!
