They didn't qualify for the Champions League this year, did they? Would have been nice to perhaps see him back again.

Nope. Finished fifth so into the Europa League qualifiers. Based on what we saw, it wouldn't have reflected well on the Dutch League if they'd qualified for the Champions League.
