The problem s though, Paulie, both of those sides of the argument are based in truth. There are people who are anti McLeish because he's an ex Blues manager, there's no point denying it. Even amongst the more fair minded he's been given no honeymoon period that any other appointment would have received.

He doesn't get a honeymoon period because he has performed EXACTLY as the sane minded predicted he would.

He has, he's kept us in mid table when the obsessives were predicting us being in the bottom 3 by now.

The value of your argument is devalued by you rigidly sticking to quoting what the numpties say.

No it isn't, all of you were predicting us being in the relegation places by now ahead of the December fixtures.

In the predictions thread before the season most had us in the top half between 7th and 10th. With one or two exceptions the more down in the dumps posters had us around where we are now.

Yes, but after our draw-filled start to the season the doom-mongers were predicting we'd get no points in December and would be firmly in a relegation battle, many also coming up with the usual "no bottle for a relegation fight" cliches.

As Chris has often said, we are set up, both on and off the pitch, to be a mid-table side, that's where we are and that's where we will finish.

Funny how it was all McLeish's fault when we went 2-1 down but no credit afforded to him at the end. He has tried countless combinations with the team, whilst bringing in some excellent young players. I also found it amusing today when I heard someone criticising Given for 'hoofing' the ball over the half way line. If I'm not mistaken that has always happened in this game.

You're quite right.  Mcleish signed Keane, Keane got the winning goals.  Simples.

What's shit about winning is that we have to think of who we should praise. If we lose, we can blame McLeish.

Every time I see the thread title I keep thinking some variation of My Lovely Horse is required.

No. McLeish got it right today (second half anyway) so fair enough, what's shit about winning is that you just don't know what will happen next time out! We still need to beat QPR (IMHO) to get some breathing space. Anyone convinced, even tonight, that we will? You're only as good as your next game, but with us, the next game is always an unknown! I know, I know, pessimist, but hey, I've been a Villa fan for nearly forty years, so bite me!

I admit I have totally lost the bug and enjoyment of football nowadays, hence I don't go down the Villa any more. I dont even miss it either. Shame because I used to love it. Nowt to do with McCleish, nor Lerner, nor tactics etc. Just everything to do with realising I wasnt bothered anymore. I occasionaly come on here from time to time to see if I can relight the spark. Fingers crossed.

So for what it is worth, here's my ditty for AM...

(To the tune of Alice by Smokey)

He took them down
He brought them up
He took them down again
He won a cup
He fucked them up
Then Randy got his man

Cus for three long years we were living next door to Alex
Alex, who the fuck is Alex

Didn’t want to be there
He knew he had enough
Came to join a big club
Cus it’s us he really loved

Cus for three long years we were living next door to Alex
Alex,
