Had a drink with Shaw in harbourne before. Perfect gent.
Numerous lee hendrie and Barry drinking sessions. Hendrie in après getting his abs out and literally burning a £50 note.
My mate telling Paul peschisolido that he would like to give Karen Brady a go so he could he no longer be the only guy left not to have done her. (Paul was not too impressed as you am imagine)
Snuck into a VIP partie in town with dean gaffney, Richard Blackwood and randomly Dwight Yorke years ago.

For a scouser and an ex nose, Tony Evans was always a good laugh. Had a few beers with him over the years.

In the early days of Sky, Mark Walters often popped into the Wilsons in Knowle to watch a game or two. Quiet lad but pleasant enough.

I saw Cyrille Regis quite a few times in the Yard of Ale in Brum. Always approachable even when I was at my pissedess. Well, thats how I saw it.

After one of the Masters six a side tournaments held in Coventry I had a couple of jars with Tony Morley and Sid Cowans who were complete gents.

There's a theme here....
Cyrillies a very good friend of my godfather. He's a really nice bloke

I almost got into a fight with Ricardo Scimeca and entourage in a Chinese in Balsall Common many years ago.

His brother was being a pillock and acting up.

I was in the same year at school with the brother. He always seemed ok, then all of a sudden he developed a big head - I think he'd got into the Villa youth team, although my memory might be playing tricks. Either way, all of a sudden he was driving about in cars that were obviously out of the price range of normal 18 year olds.

Balsall Common Chinese take-away recommendation: Crispy chicken with garlic and chilli. Prob a bit of a mission from Pedmore though like.

Nicest ever footballer to live in Balsall Common; Robbie Keane when he was at Coventry. He used to go to the same barbers as me and pay £6 for a haircut. Used to spend ages outside signing autographs for the kids (and me if I'm honest) when they'd clocked on he was having a trim. A really nice guy.

You might need to be a bit older and have a bloody good memory, but the most riotous night out I have ever had was in London with a bunch of Millwall fans of whom I knew one.

The player that made the evening? John Colquhoun.

Was he the one that played for Sheffield United in the late 70s?

I think that was Eddie Colquhoun, also played for Smethwick.

In the early 90s I was sent to Florence for the summer as part of my university course. For the first few days, we were put up in a house out on the outskirts of Florence, in a place called Coverciano.

The first night, we went out and got shitfaced.

The next day, we're sitting at the bottom of the garden, smoking heavily, incredibly hungover and trying sweat the booze out of our bodies in the sun. At one point, a group of young blokes in blue tracksuits and training gear walked past us in the field which the house backed on to.

My mate pointed and said "That bloke there looks like Franco Baresi". We had a look, and lo and behold, it was Franco Baresi, and he was with, amongst others, Roberto Baggio, Donadoni and Paolo Maldini.

Basically, we had no idea at the time, but the house backed on to the Italian National team's training HQ, their equivalent of St George's Park, or whatever that new place in Burton is called, and it was a gaggle of players out for a leisurely stroll.

It was a bit surreal.

How about this for a scandalous, rock n' roll footballer story. I used to deal with the home and car insurance of Walsall's legendary keeper Ron Green back in the late eighties. If I remember correctly he lived in Bordesley Green, drove a Sierra and was very quiet and polite.

When Alberto Tarantini abruptly fucked off from Small Heath, back to Argentina, he left an enormous unpaid phone bill.

My mate told me that when he started working at BT 30 years ago.

His was one of the football cards, given out with bubble gum, that was very rare, along with one of the Chelsea players.

My mate works as head barman at Frankie and Bennys at the Fort. Hadn't seem him for a few weeks so popped in for a quick chat and cappucino end of last season. Apparently about 10 seconds after I left the bar and went out the door, Brad Guzan came up to order a coke!

The Gardner brothers at a wedding a couple of months back, Craig had scored against Arsenal that day.  One of them was very friendly, the other not so, I will leave it there.

As a management trainee at C&A I had the displeasure of dealing with Alistair Robertson, who spent the best part of an hour being the big-I-am when the only size of something we had in stock was imperfect & the instant discount offered wasn't good enough.  Even his wife & kids were embaressed.

Moved into engineering & used to buy measuring equipment from a company represented by Michael Ricketts' uncle.  Not difficult to work out why his talent was wasted.

My old man bumped into Gary Shaw at some random pub/social club in Castle Bromwich in '82 and had a great chat with him and got his autograph.  He woke me up when got home to tell me all about it.  I was a well chuffed 13 year old at the time - priceless.

Drinking in the Reddicap Tavern one Sunday, Paul McGrath was at the bar with a fantastic leggy blonde on his arm. Lined up on the bar was a pint 3 shorts and another pint. He demolished the lot and then left to go to the Bel Air.

About a week later there was an article in the News of the World by Paul McGrath saying he hadn't touched a drink for six months.

A great bloke, and one of the best players we have ever had.

On the Bobby Charlton thing.  I think I posted on here a few years ago how on one occasion when the late Denis Howell MP attended out monthly Referees Association meeting (he was a member of our branch) he was asked to name some of the worst players he ever had to deal with.  The first name he came up with?...Bobby Charlton whom he said never stopped moaning from first whistle to last.

I always got the impression that Charlton was ashamed of where he came from, preferring to consider himself a Manc.  Probably irrational on my part.

Ask Ron Atkinson about him.

Ron Atkinson once told Jack Charlton he didn't particularly like his brother Bobby. The reply was along the lines of "I don't like him either"!

Ron Atkinson quote on Sir Booby (from the article): "...grizzling old misery, a dour, very distant individual"

Great stuff.
