Definitely, I asked the bloke next to me if he'd brought his prayer mat.

I agree with all 4 of these. The best Villa normal league away days ever - probably.

My Dad took me to my first Villa Game early 70's probably 73/74 (born 68) all I remember is that Charlie Aitken was playing for the Villa, we were in the old Witton End and I think the other team were wearing white.It really annoys me that I don't know what my first Villa game was.Both my kids went down when they were three and have got the match ticket.I just asked my kids (now grown up ) expecting them not to know "Derby County" "Man City" the correct replies . I don't know whether to be proud or more annoyed that they know their first game and I don't.

another great "away" following was the 2nd replay of the league cup v Palace at Highfield Road, turned into a proper home game for us.

Best atmosphere at a home game Sunderland in 75 (closely followed by Birmingham first derby  back  in Div 1 and West Ham Boxing  day game)

A fantastic memory.
Taking over the ground and the sound of Villa fans stamping on the old wooden stand.
Walking to the ground after parking in the street with my Dad and Brother not seeing anything but Villa fans.
George Curtis's nose split by Tony Hateley in the fist few minutes, but big George wouldn't go off despite the 'repeated exhortations' of the ex-Villa striker.
Thinking we were about to rule football.

Best atmosphere at a home game Sunderland in 75 (closely followed by Birmingham first derby  back  in Div 1 and West Ham Boxing  day game)

WW, that Palace game at Coventry was  remarkable in that the crowd  (circa 25k IIRC) was higher than Coventry's average for the season.

The Sunderland game was when the Holte was in its pomp - pre-barrier days. Electrifying.

For me also was the Albion home game in the 1975 promotion year.
3-1 to us roaring back from a goal down if I'm correct and for me the finest tackle ever seen at vp by Ian Ross to stop tony brown putting the Albion 0-2 up at the Holte end.
The roar from the Holte from that tackle was deafening and spurred us on to victory for me that atmosphere was up there with the Albion quater final of this year

Alex Cropley broke his leg  in a Div 1 game against the Albion in 79 if I remember correctly.  Remember it was freezing and there was a bit of rumpus on the train from Witton back to New Street when  Bowie was spotted. 

We usually did well at home against the Albion and got a draw at their slum.

That Spurs League Cup final was also my first Villa match at Wembley. All these years later i can still picture the moment when Andy Lochhead should have given us the lead.He went up for the ball with the Spurs centre half Peter Collins and won the tussle and shot towards the Spurs net. It was on its way into the net when from nowhere or so it seemed Steve Perryman manged to clear.We may have lost to two late Martin Chivers goals but that is the day i felt they Villa were on the way back

As it's before my Villa supporting time, it's interesting to read what the press thought of Villa back then and to learn of the numbers of supporters down at Highbury (many more than QPR, it would seem).
