I have an LP commentary of the Villa -Spurs final, was it 1971? Martin Chivers did the damage I seem to remember.
Little was great in that game.
Quote from: Percy McCarthy on June 23, 2011, 08:28:16 AMLittle was great in that game.He was, as was Frank Carrodus, John Robson, it fact, they all played well that day. What a team and what support we had. I recently watched the game on TV for the first time and was just amazed at how loud we were. It was such a brilliant day out, I had my claret and blue top hat my mother made for me, a Villa flag which I still have tucked away somewhere. The love affair with Saunders really took off that day, hearing the Villa fans singing his name and at the end chanting 'We want Saunders!' before he came over to us, big smile and a look of joy having previously lost two League Cup finals with Man City and Norwich. The two other stand outs from that day, other than the goal and puking on the coach just as we arrived back in Brum was the Villa fans chanting 'Norwich' as their players left the pitch, pure class. The other, which I thought I'd imagined all these years but was confirmed on the DVD, was Ian Ross holding the cup on the shoulders of Jimmy Cumbes with his balls hanging out the side of his shorts.

I think Those incidents deserve a thread of their own. Anyone remember I think Paul Rideout adjusting his foreskin before he shook some royal hands in 95 FA cup final?

Despite beating an admittedly over the hill Utd over 2 legs in the semi, 3rd division Villa went to Wembley on a wave of emotion. In all honesty we could and should have won the game but what the hell, a Spuds fan friend admitted that although they had won the cup, we won the glory. The scenes at the Council house in Brum afterwards were very emotional too. Villa were on the way back
Great memories of that game! The club released a vinyl LP of the commentary afterwards, I remember a few of us sitting down with a couple of Party sevens to listen to it
