For all I enjoyed watching the team at that time it did all seem a bit spur of the moment on the pitch.  Something that went unnoticed at the time I suppose.

I don't think it did, not from me anyway. Whenever we came up against real thinkers and proper modern coaches we looked inferior, we relied on magic and set pieces.

And plenty of people were indeed pointing that out at the time.

I wasn't one of them, mind.

This is total revisionism by me because I was a MONette until the bitter end, but when you consider that one of those thinkers and modern coaches was Henry Redknapp, well, it's sobering.

Imagine Emery with that team. Anybody pissing off to Marbs for a couple of days wouldn't be coming back.

Marbs? Gabby pissed off to Vegas a few times a season. 12 hour flight and then drinking, gambling and partying for 4 days, then another 12-14 hour flight back. Plus the 2-3 hours travel back from Manchester/London.

I sort of was, but as a young lad hopeful to the point of self-delusion I imagined that MON knew it too and was trying to change it. Reader, he fucking was not.

Yes, despite my misgivings I was firmly in this group. The innocence of youth.

I was 30.

The only thing I really noticed was he didn't have a plan b from counter attacking football.  Also I remember one match at home to Spurs when we were mullering them down their right.  1-0 up and the aforementioned Rednapp spotted it after about half an hour and bought Chimbonda on and he completely owned us down there for the rest of the game.  He didn't seem to have an answer to simple tactical changes by opposition Managers.  It was also like Pompey at home when get got smashed 3-0.

I wasn't a MONette at the time. Insight 😎. I think people just thought I was a miserable prick for moaning. The issue was, that was also undeniable.

As a general rule, I tend to warm to former Villa players and managers over time.  Any animosity I had for them during their time here tends to wane, and I end up remembering the better elements of their time with us, ahead of the worst bits.

For MON, it's the exact opposite.  The more I hear, the angrier I get.  The position we were in. The players we had. Although things are going great right now, it's clear his total fuck-ups with that bunch of players cost us the chance of getting to the top table of world football 15 years earlier.

It's absolutely no wonder Milner couldn't wait to get out of here.

I liked him, but I recognised his limitations.

I remember losing my shit at one 0-0 v Fulham.

And then there was Stoke, after Moscow.

But it wasn't until the twat waiting as long as possible to bail, just to ruin our season & protect his own reputation, that I began despising the pube headed little c**t.

I wouldn't piss on the twat if he was on fire...

My other half got me his book for Christmas, I couldn't believe it, I hated the idea that gave money to him.

What's incredible is how a multi-million pound organisation can be run in such an amateurish fashion for so long.

If only Randy had appointed someone who knew something about football as a Sporting Director, and they then recruited and appointed an actual coach.

I would definitely burn it...

And enjoy every flame.
