The Charlie Athersmith competition

As I said elsewhere, he's the only player in history to win everything he could win in a season. First one to name them all wins a prize.

What about Division 1, FA Cup and therefore "The Double" plus England caps. On a topical note he left Villa to join SHA in 1901. I bet H&V was busy just like this week.

That'll be it, in '97.

League, Cup, Capped against Scotland, Wales and Ireland capped for Football League, won Home International Championship? Maybe throw in a Sheriff of London Charity Shield, a Birmingham Senior Cup, Staffordshire Cup, Worcestershire something or other.

Much to my surprise, in the season that we did the double, we didn't win the Birmingham Senior Cup - which was then a big deal - nor did England win the Home International Championship.
I'm therefore rather baffled at "the everything he could win" bit.

Even Mr. Google doesn't seem to know the answer. But whilst trying to cheat I did discover this gem......
Apparently in 1900 in an FA Cup match against Millwall Athletic it was that cold and wet several players suffered mild frostbite. Some players played in overcoats borrowed from the crowd, but our Charlie went one better and played the second half carrying an umbrella.....and he scored a goal while holding the brolly.

Wasn't that story disproved, seem to recall reading it in an old H&V although I'm usually wrong.

I don't know if it was disproved, but I think it has the air of myth about it.
