Just read that statement. What a completely pointless thing to do, it's now obvious that they're going to appoint Mcleish otherwise why say anything about it at all.

Stunned that they would consider someone as negative and tactically inept. Who on earth is advising them?

I said yesterday to a mate that this is like 'Springtime for Hitler' because in order to destroy the club from inside out this is the appointment to do it. I just pray nothing's signed yet and they'll have second thoughts. Seriously, I'd just about taken anyone now as an alternative. Certainly all of the other 19 Prem managers and that includes Pulis.

There have been 5 really, really bad days for me since I started supporting Villa. Ron Saunders resigning, nearly going out of business in the late 60's and 3 relegations. Looks like I got another one coming.

I wouldn't be that bothered. Probably because I don't believe we're getting him.

But still, managers come and go. Good, bad and Graham Turner. If, bizarrely, he's coming I'm sure we'd all rub along.

Are there any noises coming out of the club at all about an imminent appointment of an ex-Blues manager? Sky Sports announce 5/1 on for McTwat and everybody gets hysterical. I don't think he'll be the Villa manager in this or any other lifetime.

My first post on this site and some might agree with me but I'm guessing many won't. If mcleish does become the new villa manager I will be 100% behind him, ok he's come from small Heath, he defiantly would not of been in my top 5 possible replacements but i believe with the backing of the villa board and some money to spend he could do us right. He didn't appear to get much of either off them down the road which alot of their managers don't seem to get over the years hense why there always up and down.

I keep hearing this whole negative football comment alot and yes blues football was dire at the best of times last season but so was ours until we brought a goal scorer in Darren bent which in my opinion saved our season. With mcleish he never got any backing financially to bring in a goal scoring option so had to play with defensive tactics first before dealing with there non existant goal threat.

He won trophys at rangers, got small Heath promoted and finished 9th when they came back up would he of done that playing negative football?

Don't get me wrong I would not want him if I had a choice but you just have to play with the cards your delt.

A very reliable source has just text me to confirm McLeish.

Rather than offer him the job, couldn't be just offer him a life long season ticket in appreciation of his acheivements at the Sty.

This is worth a golden globe award, its the single most sensible thing I've heard all day, you never know it may help the fella to learn something about the game.

It's not the fact that he's managed the knuckledraggers that is the problem. It's the fact that he is not good enough for us considering his track record elsewhere.

Exactly, he as shown no evidence whatsoever he is suited to Premership football, SPL simply doesn't come into it, ask any nose and they will wax lyrical about the negative style of football he adopts, the "he plays every game like a draw is the best result" he's happy with that, he has struggled to establish any kind of track record in the Premiership, its nothing to do with mob or over the top remarks, everybody has an opinion and in my opinion it won't be very long before the screams of betrayel are being heard from every Villa fan.

Think it has to said, we have just come out of an abysmal season IMO, we have a chance to put that right and go forward, and look for a genuine game plan that sets out a real philosophy for where we wan't to get to.

What do we do........................

Legion, who's is good enough to take on the villa role?

Let's be realistic were not going to attract big names like Benitez or ancheloti because we simply haven't got the funds to invest in what they would want.

Mark Hughes would be my number 1 option now followed by moyes but I hear the later wouldn't be an option,

Apart from unrealistic big names who is good enough for Aston villa?

Welcome Rich, I have to agree with most of this.
It is looking very likely he is coming so I do hope he gets the backing of the board to help with the squad. We have some players to replace now. We'll have to see what he can do, if we win enough the negative football (which he is famous for) could well be forgotten in time. I do still remember the saying 1-0 to the Arsenal during George Graham reign, but I also remember he won trophies. The same man at Spurs is remembered in a different light though. I just think Eck will have to do more than most to win everyone over but also do it very quickly, which for me is very worrying indeed.

Welcome to the site, Rich. In the space of two weeks, we've gone from Champions League (European Cup for me) winners in Ancelotti and Benitez to up-and-coming like Hughes and Martinez whilst holding out for Moyes to has-beens like McClaren and McLeish. In answer to your question I have no idea.
