How do you feel about Alex McLeish being the next manager?

If we appoint this guy , season tickets sales will plummet and we will end up playing awful negative football . His record is poor its that simple . I just hope to god its just paper talk . As my username suggests i don't live in brum anymore but appointing an ex blues manager and a not very good one at that still brings me out in a cold sweat .

We shouldn't have made such a fuss about McLaren.  There will always be folk who dislike one manager or other, so if the board are checking these sites to see
who would be acceptable they will always be disappointed.  They should listen to experts not us.

But FFS, McLeish?  I miss Houllier now.

If we hire him, we may as well give up trying to compete with the big dogs. We won't go down, but we'll be lucky to finish top half. Furthermore, such an uninspiring appointment will only lead to a lot of our big time players leaving. Downing will surely go. Then next up we could find Makoun wanting to move on. Bent would certainly begin making waves in January about leaving.

We were piss poor last season, but we still had enough about us that given time, we could get back to the level we were previously, not far shy of competing with the top 4. We need momentum though. McLeish for a year or two would only set us back.

Plus the standard of football would be utterly dreadful. He's signed a lot of crap players too. He signed Marlon King FFS!

the one thing about macleish you could say in his favor is that he has a solid attitude and decent integrity(a rare thing in footie these days) but if he he did come to villa he would be totally pissing on that integrity which would leave very little else, just a piss boring manager.

Me too - He's probably got a better track record of trophies won than Fergie had when he joined Utd and better than any Villa manager in recent memory.

In fact, the Blues connection is the bit that worries me the least. It is the two relegations in three years and the utterly dreadful defensive football that bothers me.

Agreed , the blues connection will always rankle but its his record and style that screams that he is the wrong choice . Imagine two games in and no points and big eck as boss , the guy would get slaughtered and never recover . The connection is there with small heath and there is no point denying it 85% maybe more of villa fans will never accept him . Im struggling to see past it too , and when i do i see a poor manager .

To the Poster- direct your opinions to the Press. The Club has not even hinted at any approach to McCleish. In any event judge him as a manager not because he worked for Small Heath. He is not for us because of his (recent) CV. Not his recent or even apparently current employee.

Get a grip mate. Some of us remember Trevor Hockey turning out in a Villa shirt. FGS. Who cares if he played or worked for them.

i dont want him because of his style of play,
 but why just mention the relegations, what about the fact that he's there the most succesfull manager of all times, he won the first major honour in there entire history,

i for one didnt think they would ever win anything in my lifetime, but they have under AM,
 so we need some balance, yes he's been relegated a couple of times, he's also won the league and a few cups in Scotland had a decent time when manager of Scotland,
he's not completley useless,

put it this way, he's won more than Moyes, Hughes, Martinez and Coyle all put together,
they might not have the relegations on there CV's, but they aint got any trophies either.

i dont want him, but it pisses me of with the one sided posts about his record.
