Here is how I see this...

If RL et al had identified Mcbluenose as the number one option to replace GED, if they thought that he would bring decent football to VP and get us potentially onto the chumps league then maybe (just maybe?) I might give them some support, but...

He wasn't the first choice, he wasn't even the 3rd choice for fucks sake! So if the board don't have the confidence in him, why the fuck should we?

Just talk about McLeish being our fourth or fifth choice says it all, really. He shouldn't even be on the fourth or fifth page, even if you leave aside his Blues connection.

I would not want to be trying to sell season tickets if we appoint him, I really would not.

It would be signifying that this board, superb though they are at providing money, really don't understand the game very much.

I agree.  I knew that thre would be a lot of Villains who wouldn't like it but have been shocked by the reaction, particularly on H&V.  I'm no expert on him but his playing and managerial career seem to have been successful on the whole.  Sure he sent them lot down twice but first time around wasn't his fault and he had to deal with two sets of difficult owners.  FFS he secured them some silverwear for the first time in their history!

I think he could be a good manager at a big club like ours but our fans wouldn't give him a chance and thats why Randy won't apoint him.

This was in The Telegraph as a successor for O'Neill was being looked for last year. There might be some truth in it after all:

Chief executive Paul Faulkner revealed Villa had been picking the brains of “a variety of contacts we have within the game for advice and guidance” in a statement released on Sunday night, following their 1-0 victory over Everton. Telegraph Sport understands that they have spoken with former colleagues of both McLeish and his predecessor at St Andrew’s, Steve Bruce, in this regard.

If an approach for the latter would raise eyebrows, a move for McLeish would really cause a stir in the second city. But with Birmingham unable to reach an agreement with him over the terms for his new contract it would not — beyond the obvious difficulties associated with poaching from a rival club — be inconceivable to prise him away.
