I think 15m plus 16m from Ashley Young will be enough to spend. We need mostly a GK, a RB and an Attacking Midfielder or a Winger.

Foster/Given, Kyle Walker should be brought already.

It all depends on the extent of our ambition.

If we want to be up there punching with the big boys, I think we would need to spend in excess of £40 mill this summer. If Spurs, City and Liverpool are spending big money on the likes of Modric, Silva and now Henderson, we have to at least match that kind of spending.

If not we are fighting for the 7th-10th places.

Liverpool "spending big" on Henderson actually contradicts your point - we do not have to get ripped off for average English players just to meet the 6+5 rule.

depends on the manager we bring in

manager with a reputation = healthy transfer kitty

"up and coming manager" (a la martinez) = not a very healthy transfer kitty

I don't believe for one nano second that Rafa said
'I'll take the job, but I want a £30m transfer budget.'

And even if he did, Prat Murphy would be the last person to know about it.

Goodness me, there's some royal bollocks amongst that lot. I know he's done well with a few notable signings, there is a lot of junk in that list for a lot of money that club allegedly didn't have. I can see why we might be a little hesitant to give him the keys to the vault even if he is qualified as a manager for the job.
