Where does this BS about McCleish improving our defensive capabilities come from? They conceded ONE less goal than us, yes that's ONE and scored the lowest in the entire league. So even though he set his team up to be defensive they still conceded only ONE fewer than we did. That's with one up front at home and boring spoiling tactics. That is one of the resons why I don't want him anywhere near our club. Don't get me started on the rest................

Couldn't agree more.

Since they lost Scott Dann they were never the same defensively.
A bit worrying that their whole survival strategy revolved round keeping Dann and Johnson fit.
They were a negative, sterile side with no nous on how to win a game.
When they went behind, despite their negative tactics, they had little or no clue as how to fight back.

I'm dreading having him manage us.

Apart from the times they did fight back into games. They missed a hell of a lot of chances thanks to that fucking donkey Jerome, but they always had a fighting spirit up until the Fulham game, where McLiesh looked beat by it all. That Pannu bloke telling him he had to make x sub or Y sub from half time onwards didn't help either I am told. Bentley gave it the billy big bollocks and was poor so they relied on Larsson delivering good set plays. I would stake money on him being first man in too.

From what's being said Pannu did a lot worse than just call down from the box. A number of the player purchases were done behind his back, firing his scout, personal insults etc

The manager still has to find a way to get results though, so he still doesn't get a pass on that one, but I'd imagine that it wasn't easy.

Does anyone else think that the General's posts suggest the new manager will have little or no money to spend?

And that may be why we seem to be scraping round the bottom of the barrel?

No.

Haven't the General's recent posts placed plenty of emphasis on compatability with current players and developing youngsters, and made no mention of the new man having to be good at signing proven top quality players?

Isn't asking permission to speak to Martinez scraping the bottom of the barrel?

The general said whoever was the new manager would be backed 110% by Randy Lerner, as RL has always backed the Villa manager.

Okay. It's the other stuff that had me worried, even though at face value it's quite sensible. Anyway, we'll see soon enough.

Is it soon enough yet?

yeah but you buy the players your budget affords you.  It wasn't that long ago we were buying the Dhemba twins and ronnie johnson.  with a bigger budget (especially wagewise) he would not buy the same players so is an unfair judgement

It's gonna happen so we should get used to it and support the team.

What id so very galling is that we will pay compensation in order to be relegated , and play awful crowd alienating football along the way. Its not the Blues connection, dreadful as that is, its the whole style, ugly, orc like, unpleasant, failing football.

Bingo.

I honestly could not give a shit about him being the Small Heath manager. I give a shit about him getting a team relegated twice in three years and becoming a poster boy for football so turgid as to be unwatchable.

The Small Heath thing - if he'd done brilliantly there and we signed him, nobody would give a shit that he'd managed them. In fact we'd all be cock a hoop at stealing him from them.

I'm raising that because in the coming weeks, you just know the board are going to be focusing on the Small Heath thing as it is a smoke screen for the main thing people are worried about, and they have no answer to that.

I think events in the next few weeks will give us some insight into the club's aspirations. It may also tell us a bit about whether MON was justified in walking out.

Ah that's ok then, it's going to happen so I should just like it. Brilliant news and Welcome Alex, can't wait for your brand of dull, boring, uninspiring, insipd, turgid shit to grace VP, better?? This is a discussion forum, for DISCUSSION, we don't all need to agree. I will support the team, however I DO NOT support the board or the appointment (potentially) of Alex McLeish. Is that ok?

I never said we had to agree.  I was discussing......as you're advising.  As i said originally, I will reserve judgement on the brand of football until we see what he delivers at villa park

Nothing like giving him a chance.

If this is true about Pannu, Why did Macleish stick around and be bullied. Find it hard to accept that someone like Macleish would put up with this.
