Aye. I wonder how many of the Houllier out lot could live with him now. As they say, be careful what you wish for....

On balance I'd rather have McLeish than a man convalescing from a heart condition. I was one of the "Houllier out brigrade" for much of last season but regardless of his success or otherwise his health made the decision inevitable

EXACTLY! All those morons who said GH OUT are probably hiding right now.  Their wish got granted but look what has turned up instead!
Er, none of this is the fault of people who believed that Houllier wasn't good enough.
Are you saying it's a punishment?
Certainly feels like it.

I could over McShit but just because we don't accept third rate doesn't mean we should accept second rate.

One thing I can't fathom is how the board can possibly think this will bring 'continuity'. Even before a ball is kicked in anger, the atmos at VP - which is often fragile anyway - will be far worse than at the lowest ebb of the DOL period. The stadium will basically have the same sort of feeling as when the manager has just got a dreaded vote of confidence and is two games from the sack. We know from experience what will happen: the players can't help but be affected by it, the defence will be a bag of nerves and if, god forbid, we have Foster between the sticks, he'll be flapping like a budgie on crystal meth. Cue another relegation fight, and this one will be a much closer thing.

Verdict? Gingerscotti won't make it past New Year. How's that for continuity.

well Randy has had 100% fans on his side since he took control, what a great way of start to piss them off . This is a big mistake and he is going to have a big shock.

Does anyone else think its crazy that people were willing to accept Martinez who narrowly avoided relegation and hasnt achieved anything but aren't willing to accept McLeish who won a trophy with an average team and wouldn't have gone down had stephen hunt not scored a pearler

I mean the people who say hes not good enough, rather than the rivalry thing. Down to one goal, one manager would be worth the risk and a decent appointment, and the other it would be an absolute disaster.

Personally I am appalled at this appointment for two reasons. Firstly the style football that McLeish favours and his poor record in England, however my real sickness about it is what it says about Randy Lerner and his plans for Aston Villa.

Mazrim hit on it earlier in that I truly believe that Randy wants out and I predict we will see a fire sale of all f the best players at the club. Young, Bent, Downing, Gabby, Delph, Albrighton & Clarke will all be sold over the next 12 months allowing Lerner to trouser the best part of £100m to recoup money he has spent since he came here. He will then put the club up for sale. I think it is case of damage limitation for him now and with the appointment of MCLeish he has a manager who will work under those conditions. I honestly think Lerner has given up.

Why else would he be showing such ignorance and contempt for the fanbase?

I thought he should have gone at the end of the season based mainly on medical grounds - as in we couldn't risk a relapse during next season.  Football wise I wasn't his biggest fan, but I though our form post Bent warranted him getting another crack at it, even though I was still far from convinced.  So on balance I think it's right he left.

But what does one have to do with the other?  Saying there is a problem and it needs to be fixed is not the same as saying 'and alny old shit will do'.  We needed a managerial change, but the board have picked the wrong man, IMO, but that does not take away from the initial need for that change.

big eck is not a man to be messed with - i wouldnt expect to see any player take him on and win .

Oh really?
And what can he do to quell player unrest.

player unrest from who? wait till it happens before saying there will be player unrest - mcleish has a reputation as a very good man manager and i am happy to give the guy a chance before slagging him off -he will be manager of our club and as such deserves our backing , there is nothing to suggest there will e polayer unrest - hes managed in europe, at international level and played at a top level winning trophies under fergie and probably will have the respect of the players more than some who may have been appointed.
