And for his next trick, Mr Lerner will set fire to a basket of puppies and punch Sid Cowans in the face...

intersting to see whether sid stays on , mcleish will probably bring his staff with him , maybe sid can go back to his old role?

People on here were calling for an appointment 'outside the box'
The ironic thing is that we'll never be out of our own next season, playing a 10-0-0 formation.

come on fletch , cheer up , lets see how he does before slaughtering him , he is inheriting much better players here and may do well.

I don't know Eastie, we are not going to have any players left at this rate.

Dunne and Collins have already sorted the last bit for him.

It all comes down to this criteria they supposedly have. My latest guesses are:

a)They wanted someone who be no trouble after MON - Well Mcliesh will spend his tenure pinching himself to make sure he's not dreaming so that fits the bill

b)They're desperate for the wage bill to come down - Sorted. i doubt there's a big earner in the club who's not looking to leave now.

i introduced my new girlfriend to football this season and made sure she became a villa fan. we watched a lot of football together. first time she saw McCleish on TV she said 'he looks like a rapist'. The missus has spoken!

I havent even broke it too her that he is about to be our new manager. She is blissfully unaware :(

Too late

Randys biggest mistake has been letting the fans have too much of a voice and backing down over McClaren.

I still have faith in Randy, theres nothing to suggest Houllier was a mistake appointment, how was Randy suppose to know he was going to get ill again?

With a full pre season and 4 or 5 Makoun standard players, i would have been really looking forward to this season.

It's a tough one for Randy, the managers the fans like, unfortunately don't want to come here (Moyes, Hughes has bigger club ambitions), or are demanding too much money (benitez)

Managers like Rijkaard won't ever get a look in, the only things hes won are with the very elite players in the world, and he eventually f*cked that up. Look at his record with not so good/average players - atrocious. Randy was never going to consider him.

I think Bent will be getting itchy feet.
He's always lauded Young and Downing for their supply line, one is leaving and the other wants out, coupled with a managerial appointment that lays bare our ambitions.

big eck is not a man to be messed with - i wouldnt expect to see any player take him on and win .

randy must back him with cash and we must see who comes in and how the team do before we judge him, none of us would have had him as our choice from those available but its randys call and lets hope it works out.

Way too many drama queens on here.

He'll be a good appointment.

In 12 month's time we'll be reflecting on a good season under him.

In years to come, the success of the McLeish appointment will be routinely trotted out as a classic example of why boards should make their own decisions, and fans should be patient and get behind the manager. It could even become the new "Fergie was on the point of being sacked and look at him now".

Let this be a lesson to our younger posters.

Don't do drugs.
I'm laughing through the tears  :'(

And what can he do to quell player unrest.

Aye. I wonder how many of the Houllier out lot could live with him now. As they say, be careful what you wish for....

Maybe I've missed something but the whole McClaren/listening to the fans thing seems to have been adopted as the truth despite it being an assumption by Pat Murphy, one that would hold no water at all given the latest events.

Quite possibly the most logical reason for not wanting him I've heard thus far.

I picked my significant other up last night and she was in a bit of a mood.  I knew this as work had been shit that day and her bank stung her for going overdrawn.  Yet when she got in the car her first words were "Please tell me we're not getting that Bluenose tw@t?"
