The worst thing is, the board can't even back out now without making the whole sorry mess look even worse. They are so far down the road of appointing him that, realistically they have to do it now. To not do so, after the McClaren snub and the bashing from the media and fans the club has received of late, would only contribute to the belief (held by the wider public and increasingly VIlla's own fans) that they haven't got a clue what they're doing.

They've completely backed themselves into a corner with the prevaricating of the last couple of weeks, the media black out, the PR gaffes and now the increasingly bitter and completely public argument with BCFC. What a complete shambles.

Exactly what I've been thinking, Randy has nowhere to turn now. Wish I had a job interview in those circumstances.

My gut tells me this is actually Faulkner and not Randy.

I've been saying this for nearly twelve months since MON left.

Has everyone voted on the Sausage Sandwich thread in Off Topic?
I think most people are looking at this thread now trying to ketchup with the latest developments.

It's best to stay optimistic: Come Christmas, if various sauces to be believed, we may well be toasting AL for bringing home the bacon with all the enthusiasm that can be mustard...

point taken fletch , i really find it strange given hughes cv why he wasnt at least spoken to but we quickly made known we had no interest in hughes after he resigned.

mcleish has a lot of work to do in the transfer market and it will be intersting to see what kind of players he goes for.

Remember last season, castigating Stoke, Wigan, Sunderland, Bolton and the Rags, for their negative, stifiling boring, anti football.
Welcome to Villa Park 2011/12.

So are we definitely interviewing only McLeish and no-one else for the post
I think there are two others
Mick Mills and Stan Bowles.

Way too many drama queens on here.

He'll be a good appointment.

In 12 month's time we'll be reflecting on a good season under him.

In years to come, the success of the McLeish appointment will be routinely trotted out as a classic example of why boards should make their own decisions, and fans should be patient and get behind the manager. It could even become the new "Fergie was on the point of being sacked and look at him now".

Except he won't last 12 months unless he wins the first 6 games and/or we play good football. The pressure will be unbearable. We'll start with season ticket sales down 30-40% (although some of that was coming anyway), criwds well below 30,000 and I think the board will have to act. In the same way that they still might have done with GH if he had not been unwell.

This is a massive fear I have which will translate into te players who will probably feel that they can outlast him.....

People on here were calling for an appointment 'outside the box'
The ironic thing is that we'll never be out of our own next season, playing a 10-0-0 formation.

it would be naive to think that we hadnt already spoken at length to mcleish, we wouldnt go through all this to turn him down now , its a done deal in my eyes.

I thought Randy's priority was a full Villa Park? If that is their business goal they have a funny way of trying to achieve it. If I'm not going after 15 years of consistent support I wonder what it will do to our more casual supporters?

come on fletch , cheer up , lets see how he does before slaughtering him , he is inheriting much better players here and may do well.

Depends if Roy Keane and his Labrador make a late play for it.

And a lot of those players will be on the phone to their agents the minute he's appointed. No one wants relegation on their CV.

And for his next trick, Mr Lerner will set fire to a basket of puppies and punch Sid Cowans in the face...

'What if's' are no good to me eastie.
I can only go by the evidence in front of us.
3 relegations and sterile football.

It's also an appointment that signifies that that there won't be much in the way of transfer funds.

I'm also at a loss as to why the board seem so keen to alienate the supporters.
It's almost a 'we're independent free thinkers, we don't listen supporters views' stance.
