I'd rather they backed out of a potential disaster eating a bit of egg on their (our) face than went headlong into it.

Has everyone voted on the Sausage Sandwich thread in Off Topic?
I think most people are looking at this thread now trying to ketchup with the latest developments.

Trying to be objective again, if we took out the Blues thing we'd be looking at a manager who went up through the ranks in Scotland to the point of managing and winning trophies with Rangers, including getting them to the last 16 of the CL.  He then took the Scotland national job and did well, probably exceeding expectations, with them.

Based on that I think we'd all be saying he's a pretty reasonable candidate for the job.  I even remember when he went to SHA some pundits saying they were surprised he didn't hold out for a better job.

But we can't ignore the 2 relegations in 4 years.  He had from December the first time so that should have been plenty of opportunity to stamp his own mark on the team, but they still went down.  He then got them straight back up, which is to his credit, and they finished a very good 9th for them.  He then won a cup, which is fucking amazing for them, but the league campaign tailed off and they went down in one of the tightest relegation scraps in recent memory.

So, what have we got then?  A manager whose star was rising until he made the mistake of taking on the gypsy's curse?  A manager that's matched and/or exceeded expectations wherever he's been, aside from two half season spells where his side slid to relegation?  Or a manager who everyone thought was better than he was and got found out in the PL?

The next 12-months will tell us.

So we will appoint a man to who I remember being at Villa park giving an interview after his team were battered 5-1. That day he looked shell shocked as to what had happened. His team was facing the drop and they put in a poor performance and he had no answers. If i knee a few years later we would be making him the manager I would never never believed. I'm in total shock at this slow motion car crash unveiling in front of me. I'm disgusted with the club for this, he's not a Villa man and his record in the premiership has 2 relegations in 3 years written on it. Get a grip everyone WTF are we doing?

Now we've got to listen to the media banging on about how we don't want him because he managed the Dog shit.
Nothing of the sort, he's not up to snuff and it's a cheapskate appointment.

If your ambition for the club has withered Randy, then please move on.

The haste with which this is being pushed through leads me to believe Mcleish resigned knowing the job was his, that means we tapped him up, if that is the case where is the high moral ground now.As i've said before i will put up with McLeish if we can get rid of Falkner, oh and he can take the general with him.

Way too many drama queens on here.

He'll be a good appointment.

In 12 month's time we'll be reflecting on a good season under him.

In years to come, the success of the McLeish appointment will be routinely trotted out as a classic example of why boards should make their own decisions, and fans should be patient and get behind the manager. It could even become the new "Fergie was on the point of being sacked and look at him now".

The fact that the noses are pissing themselves laughing says it all really.

Is this really what all the fuss is about?

It's  a sad day if we are questioning the ability of McLeish on what the knuckledraggers think.
Of course they are laughing.
They are ridding themselves of a shite manager and seeing him appointed by his biggest rivals.

Yes it a fucking sad day.

The worst thing is, the board can't even back out now without making the whole sorry mess look even worse. They are so far down the road of appointing him that, realistically they have to do it now. To not do so, after the McClaren snub and the bashing from the media and fans the club has received of late, would only contribute to the belief (held by the wider public and increasingly VIlla's own fans) that they haven't got a clue what they're doing.

They've completely backed themselves into a corner with the prevaricating of the last couple of weeks, the media black out, the PR gaffes and now the increasingly bitter and completely public argument with BCFC. What a complete shambles.

Exactly what I've been thinking, Randy has nowhere to turn now. Wish I had a job interview in those circumstances.

Thing is, if he arrives it'll raise questions as to the level of Randy's ambition. It'll cause a lot of people to reappraise the whole MON walk out and 'B ent panic buy' stories. We are a right laughing stock now and a lot of supporters will have egg on their faces having stood by the board against MON, GH and the 'Bent was a panic buy' stories.

My gut tells me this is actually Faulkner and not Randy.

They'll be saying it regardless Eastie, but as other posters have pointed out, if he was a good manager we'd be welcoming him with open arms and laughing at the thought of putting them at a disadvantage.

So are we definitely interviewing only McLeish and no-one else for the post, yet we interviewed 3 guys last yr when there were less alternatives available.  Surely there are no jobs on earth where only one candidate gets interviewed, how can you choose the best candidate from a pool of 1?  Surely we must be interviewing at least 2 others, hopefully including Hughes.
