I'd still like Poyet. Saw him talking about his transfer targets on Sky today and he obviously has a plan. His team play good football and he is ambitious. Worse than McLeish? How?

Deffinately go with Poyet if we are looking to skimp on the managerial appointment...which is looking like we are by the guys we have been linked to...

I think whats happened is that the door has been closing in on Premiership Experiances coaches and its kinda forced their hands to go with McLeish..As he is all thats available.

Maybe they tried Ancelotti, Moyes and Benitez etc and they all refused the job.

I can tell you now what McLeish's first statement to the Villa fans is going to be "all I ask is that you judge me on my results"

To which the reply thunders back from the Villa fans "we have done - fuck off".
This really is like a really surreal dream isn't it.

Whilst some of us are going way too far with our condemnation of McLeish, it is astounding how the people at Villa have found him to be the outstanding candidate!

We keep hearing from statements from The General and Paul Faulkner (who is looking increasingly inept in every dealing) that Mr Lerner has spoken to 'advisors', who are these bloody advisors that have steered him the way to McLeish?!  It defies belief, why can't we have these 'advisors' outed!

I would say that this is a key season for villa as a club, a chance to re-establish ourselves as a realistic Top 6 side, as has been our status over the past 30-years largely. With this appointment we have shown in all probability that we are settling for mediocrity this term. Yes, we know the wage bill needs to be reduced, yes, we know that we probably spent most of this summers transfer budget in January to avert disaster, but I think most of us would have been content with spending the proceeds of the Young sale and anything else that we gained from sales (hopefully not Downing!).  Alex Mcleish's answer when given £7mill for a striker is Nikolai Zigic! Does that not just sum things up!

I actually think that McLeish did a pretty steady job at Hibs, Rangers and Scotland, but his work at the sty could not be classed as anything other than mediocre by even his most ardent admirer (Ron Toss)

So what can we expect at Villa under 'Big Eck' (what a fucking stupid nickname that is by the way!), well Young & Downing to leave, and probably someone big up top like Crouch, horrible in midfield, maybe Joey Barton and more of Collins and Dunne, best case scenario. Back that up with average, run of the mill journeymen pros, like Seb Larsson, Karl Henry, Steed Malbranque, Mark Noble, and Kenwyne Jones and you have the profile for McLeish. I really don't know if I could tolerate that.

I want to give the guy a chance, I really do, I want to be able to distance myself from the criticism, I really do, but it is bloody hard isn't it

McLeish would have been a long, long, long way down my list of who I would want to manage Villa but...

His record in Scotland, Hibs, Rangers and Scotland was very good.  Fans of Rangers and Hibs have been very complimentary to him and the football they saw under his reign.

I have to agree that whenever I saw Blues play, they played shit football but they did get some decent results and they won a trophy, which we haven't done for a very long time.  He got them promoted at the first time of asking, they finished 7th in their first season back in the prem, he won them a trophy in their second but they also got relegated following terrible form after the cup win.  However, he did this at Blues with terrible owners.  From what I understand he did not want Zigic.  As much as I am predisposed to have an irrational hatred for him, I have always thought he held himself with good grace whenever interviewed.

I hope he doesn't get the job tomorrow.  I hope we end up getting Hughes, Rafa, Moyes etc but if he does get it, I am not going to blame him.  If Randy gives him the job, blame Randy don't blame McLeish.

Quality post Brian by the way, another chuckle.

I'd even go with Grayson above Eck - that might be a fit of pique however.

But surely Hughes or Jol would have been a vastly better bet than Mcleish? Surely to fucking God?

I don't hate the guy at all. I agree he carries himself with good dignity.

I just don't see what he's done to make him the best bet from what appeared to be a very strong field several very long weeks back.

I'd definitely have taken Mclaren instead too!

I wasn't sorry to see the back of O'Neill.
I wasn't sorry to see the back of Houllier.
Well I'm sorry now.

I was sorry to see the back of O'Neill.
I was sorry to see the back of Houllier.
And I sure am sorry now.

I am a man of constant sorrow.

I'm going into a Villa coma for a year and see what happens when I come out - there's no point getting too depressed about it.

I wonder if Carlos Cuellar will move back to Rangers in a swap for McGregor? Old boys network.

Does anyone know who McLeish's backroom staff are?  Is Nigel Spink with him?

One positive from appointing McLeish, Randy will HAVE to spend big to justify the appointment.  Fans need winning over.

if Randy had plans do spend big do you honestly think we would be interviewing McLeish tomorrow?

I'm happy it's over and I can sleep!

I wanted hughes , Carlo , moyes or Benitez and mcleish wasn't on my list but it's randys choice and he's not as bad as some portray- I really wish him well and hope we can all unite behind the team and hopefully have good times ahead.

You,re a frickin nose in diguise, there aint a claret and blue bone in your body.

That's totally out of order, and worthy of a final warning.

Just a thought here.

Van Gaal.....
Bernd Schuster...
Jurgan Klinsman...
Marco Van Basten...
Micheal Laudrop...
Steve Coppel...
Glen Hoddell...
Mark Hughes...

At least another 10 I could stick up here and all a dam sight more proven than McLiesh.

SSN are yellow striping that Pannu is saying our actions challenge Premier League rules.  I really hope he's true & has Petrocelli, Kavanagh QC, Judge John Deed & Rumpole of the Bailey in their legal team.  If they want donations to fund the case I'm happy to help (although Blose'd probably qualify for Legal Aid...)

Anyone got Johnny Cochrane's number?
