If it's true, and it sounds like it is I'm right behind him as the Villa manager. The last thing the club needs is the crowd not giving him a chance.I'll be amazed mind you

Personally I can see the positive side of becoming hard to beat, but its hard to see this was the best choice in terms of continuing Gerard Houlliers work.Last year was just a waste

Fuck this! Why do this? Anyone but him? Simon Grayson, anyone?!! We really need to do something about this. The fact they've even admitted it makes us all look like mugs. After all the good Randy has done and he goes does the shittest thing he could possibly do. I really cannot believe this. It's beyond disgraceful

well at least Foster will be coming  ;-0

I doubt it.  Or if he does Pannu will make us pay over the odds.

Fuck.  Pannu is our best hope of stopping this.

The compensation is going to take months to sort, but if we offer 10 for Foster, he will be sold, Blues are up the shit. They were also on the verge of sacking Eck 4 weeks ago but could not afford it. They have buggered him a lot, but he now has a huge opportunity. Time to wipe the slate and judge him on one thing only. Next season.

Anyone who protests is just hurting Aston villa and making our club look a joke - let's get behind the team and give him a chance please?

The club statement mentions "proven Premier League experience". Getting a side relegated twice in 3 years and scoring 37 goals in 38 games is indeed Premier League experience.  Experience of persistent failure at this level. And they're still going to interview him!? My gob is well and truly smacked.

I thought Randy was better than this. I was wrong

If they back him in the transfer market it might work out, he is a very negative manager in football terms on his form with Scotland and Small Heath, not sure how he played when he was at Rangers with more at his disposal in comparison to his opponents.

This isn't a positive appointment but the board have to be allowed to appoint whom they best see fit.

Well we can't do anything to stop them.  We don't have to like it though.  It is further proof, that Randy doesn't understand English football, and that he is seemingly bent on continuing his dismal record in appointing Browns and Villa managers.  Way to go Randy, what a bloke.

Don't the fucking board realise?!

It's not because he managed Blues, it's because he had a win record of 21% with them, fewest goals scored, played disfraceful football and got relegated TWICE!!!!!!!!

Why are you hiring this ginger turd???????????/

This is a message to the fans of Aston Villa.

The Club has been reluctant to elaborate publicly on our search for a new manager and, in particular, to confirm or deny our interest in specific candidates.

This is not a new policy, indeed it is the approach that we have taken both in regard to managerial prospects, and potential player signings.

The Club understands that Alex McLeish is a free agent. We therefore intend to interview him imminently in order to make a decision regarding his candidacy to become Villa manager.

From the beginning of our search, we have set out criteria based on proven Premier League experience, compelling leadership, an ethic for hard work and, most importantly, sharing our vision for Aston Villa as we know that without a shared vision any appointment, however attractive, will ultimately fail.

Since 2006 we have approached our custodianship of Villa based on a broad-based strategy of significant investment to improve the squad, the training ground and Villa Park. We feel it is essential to select a manager who understands and supports our strategy for the Club to grow and to be sustainable. Otherwise, the natural tensions and competitive pressures that are involved with every season will ultimately cause instability and make continuity impossible.

We would, however, like to emphasise that in deciding to interview Alex McLeish, the Board has taken his tenure at our local rivals and the strong emotions associated with this very seriously.

We are determined, still, not to allow that three-and-a-half year post to disqualify him should he be the best candidate for the role of Aston Villa manager.

Where's that idiot Pelty?  I'd like to see him come out and defend this utter lunacy.

It's not the fact that he spent three and half years at Blues.  It's the fact that in that time, they played shit football, wasted money on shit players and got relegated twice.  How on earth does that make him the best candidate for the job?  All it makes him is the best candidate for Randy Lerner: out of work and cheap.

Spot on, utterly disgraceful.

His brand of football is utter gash...36 goals in the league last season, twice relegated, they can think again if im parting with any of my ££ whilst this clown is in charge....can see plenty of empty seats!

Blues played dire football in the prem these last 2 seasons, Birmingham... that doesn't mean he will be playing the same style at Villa., if he is appointed.

Trying to be positive, he knows how to organise a defence, something we badly need.

Well, think positively chaps, at least you'll get and hour and a halfs extra sleep on a saturday, because in all the time I watched Rangers play, he's was the most dour football I have ever seen. Compared to Alex, Walter Smith's first spell in charge was electrifying footbal, and even that was crap, and he had Hately, Stevens and Durrant in the Team!!

Poorest decision on football grounds i believe we could of made.

Then they must be phuckin blind!
He clearly is not fit to run an ambitious football club - his record is shite!

I still hold out hope that it won't be Mcleish. I can't say for certain, but before we hired Houllier, wasn't there a raft of interviews with various people? Houllier's name wasn't even mentioned till very late on.

I'm hoping that this is another interview and the board just want to check as many possibilities as they can before they commit to someone.

Please let this be the case. I'm not even that opposed to McLeish, it's the black cloud of negativity over Villa Park that this would bring (should it happen) that concerns me.
