They don't understand though, it's his awful football and the fact he got them relegated that is the major problem not the fact he was their manager. He got them relegated for fucks sake, premier league experience is no use if it resulted in relegation.

Club statement on Twitter - Face it guys, this is going to happen.  Frankly I'm shocked that this is the best candidate the board can come up with.  face it, the dreams of challenging the top 4 are all but over.  We are now a Fulham/Sunderland level team at best.  Stay up and anything else is a bonus.

McLeish - I can forgive him for being Scottish and an ex-Bloser.

But not for being GINGER

He he, just been tongue in cheek!

That should go down a treat with the originator of this site.

It's going to be him. I can't believe our board are this naive. I will support Villa, however Im not happy with this AT ALL and god help him if he gets a bad start

Amusing though if they were against Man Utd and Liverpool and we won them both....

Now that would make for some good sport!

Club statement confirms we are interviewing him. Fuck.

It more or less says he is appointed to me. Done deal. Right now, when do we sign Foster, Dann and Johnson!?
'

if/when we appoint him, Birmingham clearly believe they have a claim for compensation.  There is absolutely fuck all chance any Birmingham player will be sold to Villa in the near future.

If they had taken his time at Small Heath seriously they wouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

Let the shit storm commence. And it will still be raining down in 12 months time.

Oh well. At least BlackcountryVilla will be able to stand next season as it's likely there wont be anyone behind him

His brand of football is utter gash...36 goals in the league last season, twice relegated, they can think again if im parting with any of my ££ whilst this clown is in charge....can see plenty of empty seats!

Well, "the shared vision" is not shared with the fans, is it!

This is a message to the fans of Aston Villa.

The Club has been reluctant to elaborate publicly on our search for a new manager and, in particular, to confirm or deny our interest in specific candidates.

This is not a new policy, indeed it is the approach that we have taken both in regard to managerial prospects, and potential player signings.

The Club understands that Alex McLeish is a free agent. We therefore intend to interview him imminently in order to make a decision regarding his candidacy to become Villa manager.

From the beginning of our search, we have set out criteria based on proven Premier League experience, compelling leadership, an ethic for hard work and, most importantly, sharing our vision for Aston Villa as we know that without a shared vision any appointment, however attractive, will ultimately fail.

Since 2006 we have approached our custodianship of Villa based on a broad-based strategy of significant investment to improve the squad, the training ground and Villa Park. We feel it is essential to select a manager who understands and supports our strategy for the Club to grow and to be sustainable. Otherwise, the natural tensions and competitive pressures that are involved with every season will ultimately cause instability and make continuity impossible.

We would, however, like to emphasise that in deciding to interview Alex McLeish, the Board has taken his tenure at our local rivals and the strong emotions associated with this very seriously.

We are determined, still, not to allow that three-and-a-half year post to disqualify him should he be the best candidate for the role of Aston Villa manager.

The last part of the statement is fucking ridiculous. Strong emotions? Have they actually bothered to look at the fans opinion on this appointment? They can use us as an excuse to discount McLaren but when it suits them they can just ignore us. Pretty miffed at all of this. Why release a statement about McLeish and nobody else? It's clearly going to be him but if we have to pay SHA for him i'll be disgusted.
