Graham is talking tosh, like the rest of them. Wait for the appointment to be made, if it's crap, then have a go at the board. I've never seen so much waffle and cack spoken about an appointment thats not actually been made, about so called dead certs for the job who people dont want when there is no indication they have been offered anything more than the chance to speak to the Villa about a possible job.

Randy will get it right. Let's just give him the chance!!!

He did turn the chance to come and have a chat though?

It appears he did which does suggest he was on a list of some kind but quite possibly bottom of that list. Any others mentioned have never been officially confirmed and we still might be well placed to get our first choice.

Martinez will regret he never came for a chat on the off chance he would have got the job, I still believe he would never have been offered it.

Totally agree!  People just need to be patient.

Matinez didn't turn us down? Not sure how you can put spin on that one. We asked, he declined.

As usual sir Graham is talking a lot of sense.

I like many have massive amounts of respect for Sir Graham. But honestly, he's being carried along by the wave of myths that are being created in the media, none more so than by his bitter BBC colleague Pat Murphy.

True.  Why is Pat Murphy so bitter?  As a football journalist he's a brilliant cricket correspondent...

I'm a little disappointed in Sir Graham spouting off today.
Unfortunately, thats twice during this manager search he has spoken. The other time was to back McClaren !!

Graham, you are still massively in credit with us, we still have huge respect for you, but please don't comment on this anymore.

Others will know better, but I believe it is because he no longer has a close relationship with the club. Something he enjoyed more so during MON's time.

Talking of Sir Graham, I remember the day he was first introduced as Villa manager when right up until the moment Doug unveilled him the press were convinced Dave Bassett was going to walk through the door.
At the exact same time down in Watford Bassett was unveilled as their new boss.

I'm very fond of Taylor but he's not adverse to talking out of his mudwhistle.
The media are saying we're moving from name to name, the reality is probably very different. He should have a silent prayer to St Fu until the cat is out of the bag.

And Martinez did not turn us down because he wasn't offered a job. The likelihood is he wouldn't have made it through the interview process because he's not good enough. Besides, Whelan and himself had already agreed to stay together if they survived. They just had a nice bit of publicity at our expense. It was all very tawdry but the media liked it. Bless.

martinez opted against coming for a chat/interview as he wanted to stay loyal to his current employer.  whats wrong with that? for once, its good to see that in football.

Graham Taylor has as much right to an opinion as anyone else does- maybe his views differ but he is still entitled to them.

It's amazing how a media outlet takes an unsubstantiated rumour and runs with it. It's like the biggest game of Chinese whispers going. To suggest that we've missed out on our top choice, or we've handled it badly or even that Lerner has cancelled interviews because of fan reaction to a name is nonsense, because it's based on half-truths, Twitter rumours or in most cases just plain bullshit.

Nobody knows what's going on, so for the BBC or Talkshite or any tabloid to suggest they're ITK is incorrect.

But what's worse is people believing this nonsense and then using it as a huge stick to beat the club with. GT seems to have also fallen into this trap today.

Cloak and dagger is obviously the way of Lerner and Faulkner in these cases but my god have people in the media and some supporters used this approach to hammer them.

Your right he did turn us down.

However, don't foget he turned down the chance to be considered not the job itself.

That says more about him than our vacant position. He is obviously very comfortable working for his mate DW who happens to be delighted with the medicore management of his club.

Not sure we would have accepted such poor ambition from him - no great loss.

We don't really even know the McLaren story - all the stuff about heads being turned by message boards was really from journo's who have no idea what is going on, some of whom could have been briefed by McLaren, who in turn was guessing as to why he wasn't interviewed.

You wouldn't want to play poker with RL, that is for sure.

What I do find a little surprising is that we aren't trying to up our public image a little, as the disgruntled media do seem to be sharpening the knives a little.
