Fulham had ONE candidate that they'd interviewed last year.
The only variable was yes or no. It doesn't compare at all.

I would see the logic in Grayson if the rumours that have caused his price crash to be true are born out. I would love Villa to do something out of the blue though to allow us to stick 2 fingers up at the media. Moyes is the only one that could realistically do that, and he would be a very safe appointment. No issue with us looking for the next Moyes type though if those that the club have spoken with simply don't fit the mould that they are looking for. One of the criterai I would have thought would be getting someone that is going to give continuity for 4-5 seasons minimum and progress each time.

One candidate, well we really don't know that for a fact do we, and how do we not know that Jol was the man Fulham wanted, and went for him, and if it is the case and Jol was out there looking for work why was Villa never on his agenda.

It surely can't be the London thing, He knows the Midlands well.

Because Fulham had kept in touch and spoken to him on a monthly basis all season, kept him sweet and appointed him, almost as if they were planning on Hughes buggering off.

Tbh, I think getting Ancelotti would allow us to stick 2 fingers up at the media. If we got Moyes the like of Adrian Durrbrain would just say "it's a side step move" etc...

It is pretty clear that Ancelotti is out though due to the contract thing with Chelsea, and we are not going to pay Ancelotti the £6m to break that.

This is the point, when we appointed MON after the O'Leary debackle, MON's first press conferance was him sitting down and making it clear he had a 5 year plan, he required the full backing of the board and in return pointed out that this was a business if he didn't get the results I remember him saying he would have failed. The differance is you could see MON really wanted the Villa job.

Then why would we pay Everton £7 million for Moyes?

Grayson's price came in massively because punters suddenly worked out he was an ex Villa player. We have had a different favourite every day so far, sometimes more than one a day. McLeish has had his twenty four hours now so I'm guessing it will be Owen Coyle's turn by tomorrow. I also agree with a previous poster in the fact that the 'dramatic news' of McLeish being favourite coincided nicely with selling a few extra papers on a Sunday.

Ozzjim are you 100% on the contract thing? It was being reported last week that Chelski had put that clause in but Ancelotti had managed to negotiate it out before signing

Looks like this needs posting every 50 pages or so. The reason Fulham and Chelsea aren't suffering the same fate as us:

Jol was Fulham's preferred choice over Hughes last year and agreed terms with Fulham but Ajax allegedly blocked the move. Jol resigned from Ajax in December and when Hughes walked on Fulham he was a ready made replacement.

Chelsea intend to appoint Guus Hiddinck who is reportedly in the process of leaving the Turkish national side to accommodate the move.

We on the other hand are scrabbling round for managers as the board had no candidate lined up when Houllier went

I definitely prefer Grayson as an option to Mcleish or Curbishley. At least there is potential to improve there.
