See they are mentioning Rijkaard again.

Does anybody want to actually manage Villa, the minute it look like we hone in on someone they duck for cover.....

That's just how the national media are portraying it.

I go along with what Paulie amongst others have said. If they didn't want Houllier, fine. But then don't go after managers with no record to speak off at all and expect us to be happy about it.

Had a look at the odds.

If you discount all the people unlikely to be asked or unlikely to take the post (McLeish, Hughes, Benitex, Moyes, Ancelotti) etc, The best of the rest is either Coyle or Curbishley.

Curbishley may not be a popular choice because of his playing career but his managerial credentials are very good. I'd say the only black mark against him was wasting a fair bit of money at West Ham.

Gonna put a few quid on him at 60-1 on betfair.

Oh no we've reached page 358 and someone's mentioned the C-word. Abandon ship time..... :'(

I'll give you 150-1. If you want to throw money away.
I dont know why youve ruled those others out either.

Maybe because it's being reported as some kind of poisoned chalice and people seem reluctant to give the board the chance to get the right man in.

Its being reported like that because of the way we're going about it. Of course if you send out polite requests to talk to a manager, you're going to get knockbacks, because surprisingly clubs don't want to lose their Manager. I know some people on here get a warm feeling everytime we behave in the"proper" manner, but the downside of behaving like a Victorian mill owner is we are entirely at the whim of the other club before we can even discuss things with their manager. Hence the "no-one wants to join Villa" headlines.

I think the worrying thing is just who we are going to end up with, also, how is it within seconds of losing Hughes Fulham appoint Jol, no hassel, no problem, a manager that many Villa fans would have been delighted with.

Ancelotti must be aware of the Villa job but distances himself and comes out with I'd rather do nothing in a polite way. The Martinez thing was a near fiasco, he would rather stay at at friggin Wigan and pass up the opportunity of Villa, Hughes seems to have gone quiet but if he wanted the job surely he would be making waves now. Moyes seems completely disinterested, probably because he see's no real differance between Everton and Villa.

My feeling is we need now to do a bit of marketing around the club and within, decide who we are going for and get him at all costs, show some ambition, if its Van Gaal lets get him Rijkaard lets get him but above all lets get the geezer in place so we have at least some chance of retaining a few of our better players.

Its all going on to long now, how long is it since Houllier went sick how long is it since the end of the season, time we got this sorted IMO.

In 1974 we appointed a manager on the strength of him winning the League Cup with two separate mediocre teams.

Losing in the finals actually.

Instead of asking politely, we should have sent the A-Team in to snatch their managers from them. Or Chuck Norris.

This thread makes you ask yourself what some fans think of our owner, PF and the board members.
