For people who can't be arsed with the link the first 2 lines say

"Alex McLeish is the new favourite to become the next manager of Aston Villa at a best of 9/4 with bet365."

but the downside of behaving like a Victorian mill owner is we are entirely at the whim of the other club before we can even discuss things with their manager. Hence the "no-one wants to join Villa" headlines.

Didn't most Victorian mill owners behave in an entirely improper way?

only to their workers.

Had a look at the odds.

If you discount all the people unlikely to be asked or unlikely to take the post (McLeish, Hughes, Benitex, Moyes, Ancelotti) etc, The best of the rest is either Coyle or Curbishley.

Curbishley may not be a popular choice because of his playing career but his managerial credentials are very good. I'd say the only black mark against him was wasting a fair bit of money at West Ham.

Gonna put a few quid on him at 60-1 on betfair.

I'll give you 150-1. If you want to throw money away.
I dont know why youve ruled those others out either.

Maybe because it's being reported as some kind of poisoned chalice and people seem reluctant to give the board the chance to get the right man in.

Its being reported like that because of the way we're going about it. Of course if you send out polite requests to talk to a manager, you're going to get knockbacks, because surprisingly clubs don't want to lose their Manager. I know some people on here get a warm feeling everytime we behave in the"proper" manner, but the downside of behaving like a Victorian mill owner is we are entirely at the whim of the other club before we can even discuss things with their manager. Hence the "no-one wants to join Villa" headlines.

As much as the analogy made me smile, I don't see Villa as some last-bastion of victorian values.   I just think it's another example of the outrageous hype that is the premier league.  Frenzied and bloodthirsty and completely unforgiving of any kind of vacuum.   The board aren't perfect and they have made mistakes, I just don't see a couple of weeks wait to get the right man in as one of them this time around.  I'm boring myself by relating it back to 'the media' all the time but that's the way I see it.  It's just really quite frustrating that we have so many fans that seem to want to believe the worst when spoon fed lies and 'there's no smoke without fire' style innuendos.  I hope that doesn't come across as being condescending to anybody.

Instead of asking politely, we should have sent the A-Team in to snatch their managers from them. Or Chuck Norris.

The A-team are only good when they have a barn or a garage to prepare in before hand.

Chuck Norris on the other hand.........(let your mind wonder)

Bigmatt we just need a  simple YES/NO poll here  and comments are not necessary. Post comments in the main Manager third.

Woah there fellas, bit extreme don't you think, the last thing we want is Chuck getting carried away and round house kicking the premier league into space...

not at all, but we know they wanted Martinez. god knows why, but i wouldn't have considered it a bending of the rules by too much given the games other clubs get up to, to find out first if he was interested. Something along the lines of "if we could get an agreement with your chairman would you be interested?" Saves an awful lot of time and embarrasment.

Point is though, we seem without direction, we have track record for this kind of thing going on forever, in the same way Villa can launch abuse at the way MON departed the club and when he departed, it took ages for us find his replacement, every bit as damaging to last season as when MON departed, ref my previous post, Fulham replaced Hughes that some would say an even better manager within days, no problem.

Doesn't matter a fig what in the press, certainly didn't matter to Fulham, the speed within which Fulham moved to replace Hughes was a fantastic example of how it can be done, media actually have nothing to do with it, and in waiting for the right man to come along, it really doesn't seem to make a differance, I genuinally did not think Houllier was the right man in any way.

And yes there are many examples of smoke without fire i work with chemicals all the time that do just that.... ;)

And no its doesn't come across as condescending.

But we do now need to get this sorted, don't you think. 8)
