I've just looked at odds Simon Grayson is now 3rd favourite behind the shit that won't flush Hughes and Big Eck. People on betfair really believe any old shite.

If the best we can do is Simon Grayson or Alex McLeish we might as well lock the gates and sell the ground.

I fully expect Randy to pull a rabbit out the hat and put an end to this farce.

So do i. Well it's more I hope he does or we'll end up looking like complete twats if we end up with some second rate lower league manager that you would expect to find at The Sty.

Yes NOTW running with McLeish tomorrow.

Today's Express & Star said it's a non starter that though.

This thead is more tragic than Aston Villa. So at least there's that to cling to in these uncertain times.

At this stage of this ham fisted and slightly embarrassing quest to find a manager i would like to think that was the plan all along, despite MM saying its a non runner.
We are really looking like a joke at this point. I have Man City fans messaging me on Facebook sniggering at this stage.
Hopefully all this will end with an appointment that will make me sit up and make me feel ashamed that I ever questioned Randy and PF and their ability to run our club.
Hopefully.

News Of the Screws

McLeish the No.1 target for Villa

Exclusive by Andy Dunn
June 12, 2011

ALEX McLEISH has emerged as the shock No.1 target to take over at Aston Villa.

We understand Randy Lerner has set his sights on the Birmingham manager after feedback suggested both David Moyes and Owen Coyle would not be likely to consider the post.

The controversial move would be sure to spark an angry response from both sets of the city's supporters.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson emerged as an alternative target yesterday, but Villa believe they have a real chance of tempting McLeish, who has not exactly enjoyed the best of relationships with his club's owners.

He was promised lavish transfer funds when Carson Yeung took over the club 18 months ago but they have not materialised.

McLeish did sign a new contract back in September of last year, committing himself to St Andrews until the summer of 2013.

But he is set to lose some key players.

Centre-back Scott Dann is attracting the interest of a number of clubs, while his defensive partner Roger Johnson's agent yesterday confirmed his client has been told he can leave.

Paul Smith said yesterday: "Without breaching any confidences, I've had a call from Birmingham to declare they would have to let him go.

"And at 28 years old and having played in every game in the top flight for two seasons running, he is in demand for sure. It's just a matter of who he goes to I think."

The Villa board would have to take into consideration the reaction of their supporters to a McLeish move. But Lerner might gamble on the idea that the fans would see it as a coup if they were to prise away their rival's manager.

Villa's search for a successor to Gerard Houllier has turned into a soap opera after Roberto Martinez turned down the chance for talks at Villa Park.

Everton's Moyes and Bolton's Coyle were both on the short-list but their clubs believe they will stay.

Mark Hughes - who resigned from Fulham last month - remains a possibility but McLeish is their favoured choice.

The media really do not have a clue if they think that our board have sat around since Friday shrugging their shoulders going "well what do we do now first choice Martinez has rejected treble his wages? I know, what about that scotch fella down the road, two relegations, plays one up front at home, score less goals in a season than James Collins - perfect, give him a ring!"

No doubt we'll see "The Egil has landed!" the welly wearing Norwegian spotted at Aston Villa airport on a back page, then Monday "Nor-way" Olsen rejects Villa, bankrupt midlanders cannot afjord Egil's wage demands. It's a fjuckin joke.

I'm not overly concerned about events thus far.

Whelan's opportunistic crowing was a bit shit. But it's only been just over a week since GH's departure and I trust that the board -who have had the best part of two months to plan ahead- are competent enough to get the right bloke. We might even be in the advanced stages of securing an appointment.

I'll back the club no matter what. However my support for RL and co is not unconditional. I won't make threats about not attending games and so forth. But an appointment along the lines of a Curbishley, McLeish, Bruce or Grayson will erode a fair amount of trust built up over the past few years.

Fortunately, I think that NOTW article is bollocks.

Yeah, that'll make us warm right up to him. They're just making things up now, I'm starting to enjoy it a bit.

Even though I think even considering Martinez was an act one would usually attribute to out of control mentals, I don't think for a nanosecond think the board are dimwitted enough to think McLeish would ever be a possibility.
