if this is true about Grayson, i'm really having a problem working out Lerner's criteria for selecting a manager.

Seems to be

1. Limited experience.

2. young.

Anyone?

If that's the criteria, I'd rather have Paul Lambert.  Norwich are a smaller club than Leeds, but actually did the job of getting them promoted from League 1 to the Premier League in 2 seasons.

As a player he has European experience (winning the Champions League with Dortmund) and so should have some decent contacts abroad.

I can't understand why he's not in the frame though.

I believe the board wants a manager with
- PL experience
- not huge budget demands
- develop the young players of the club
- and a manager that is willing to commit, so definetely under the age of 60

To be honest i cant blame downing or others if they decide they want out, since the arrival of faulkner things seem to have gone downhill fast and if grayson is the target then the ambition of the club is nowhere near what they led us to believe.

The emporer has no clothes i fear.

Of course he did. The guy had a near perfect bill of health and had to be dragged out, and was,as soon as the season finished.

What I can't understand is why we did that, at considerable expense too, to then be found a week later targeting the likes of Roberto Martinez, and now we hear Simon Grayson.

In January we backed Houllier to the tune of 30 odd million, so to want him out so quickly, having had six weeks notice with his illness, we'd have had the wheels in motion ages ago.

Randy has always put his hand in his pocket, his record on that side is unquestionable in my opinion, but off the pitch things just look a bit clueless. We send Dave Whelan a letter asking to speak to his manager, thinking we are being knights of the game, and here we are with him having made us look like utter mugs.

Amateurish, I'm afraid.

All comes down to the same fact that we need a football man somewhere on the board. Someone who understands the sport and the league.

I cannot justify it, but I like the idea of Grayson

Positives:
1. Young yet has managed at a high profile club with high expectations
2. Has achieved a decent level of success considering the clubs he has been with
3. Has played for Villa so should know a bit about the ethos of the club
4. (If he is any good) I could see him really building something over a number of years

Negatives
1. Never managed in the Prem
2. No evidence of having a decent scouting network
3. Left Blackpool for Leeds, yet it is Blackpool who have progressed further

4-3 winner.

It seems to me that Randy is after a manager who mirror's himself. Quiet, comes across well, loyal and goes about things properly, meaning not doing our transfers through the press, which is maybe why he and MON had a good spell, why he went for GH and maybe why Benitez is not really fancied.

I can understand the reasoning behind Grayson (if it's true and let's not forget, it's all just twatter talk at the minute) more than i can Martinez.

Fuck me. We were talking about appointing the ex managers of Chelsea, Liverpool & Man City, now its Wigan, Leeds and Norwich.

I've more faith in RL than all this, I still reckon its going to be someone a bit more exiting than that lot.

People like win percentages now it seems. Here's Grayson's;

Games 297
Won 129
Drawn 85
Lost 83
Win  % 43.43

That's with Blackpool and Leeds.

If we are now talking about McLeish and Grayson why the feck did we pay off Houllier in the first place?

First it was Hughes, then Moyes, Ancelotti, Jol, Rafa, McClaren, Martinez, today morning was McLeish, now it's Grayson. Can't wait this gets over.

I sincerely hope so. If Fulham can attract Jol surely we can get someone at least as good?
