From Marching On Together

Quote
Rumours on Twitter at the moment, that Bates has given villa permission to talk to him.

Good to see they haven't been fooled by the media!

I don't think it's a particularly good job to take. They are a selling club, the board have stated this, thats why O'Neil left. They have to sell to buy new players and a lot is expected on them now. I mean Roberto Martinez has already turned it down. I can see McAllister being offered it and doing an ok job. I know he didn't do the greatest job for us but he had been out of the game for a long time.

Quote
When Villa sold milner O Neil called time, must be a nightmare for a top flight manager to see your key positions vanish.

Well now I want him just to spite them.

if this is true about Grayson, i'm really having a problem working out Lerner's criteria for selecting a manager.

Seems to be

1. Limited experience.

2. young.

Anyone?

what has randy got against mark hughes? Give fayed a few grand and get hughes rather than someone who is not proven at top level- this is all becoming farcical.

The manner of his departure from Fulham I would assume. We don't want a manager who will leave at the drop of a hat like that.

He activated a get-out clause in his contract, and Fulham had his replacement ready two days later. His departure was hardly O'Neillesque.

I'm not saying that Lerner is right to feel that way. It's just how I think he feels.

id take mcleish or mclaren over grayson- what happened to the experienced manager search?

I'd take Grayson over McLeish. This is the same Mcleish who has taken Blues down twice and who's idea of keeping them in the top flight was playing Cameron Jerome on his tod every week. I understand the concern about the in-expereince though.

I think he's all over the shop to be honest. Roberto Martinez? Simon Grayson?

Why hoof Houllier so firmly out the door to then go and and mook around managers Albion would think twice about?

He's probably got Eddie Howe and Phil Brown on the list, too.

My personal black list: Rijkaard, Grayson, Coyle and until recently Jol.

The board knew for weeks there were doubts about houllier and yet they still seem no further forward-  no wonder people are taking the piss- i thought the houllier appointment was badly handled but this is going down an even worse road.

I am rapidly losing faith in the board.

If we are waging a one club campaign to be seen as some kind of throwback to gentlemanly Victorian values, then we will get nowhere.

Football is a horrible, backstabbing, two faced game. Nice guys get nowhere.

We've had how much notice we'd almost certainly need a new manager?

About as much as you ever get.

Bit off topic, but does anyone know the circumstances that led to Wenger managing in Japan? It's an unusual career path, you'd have to say.

Short answer is no, but I was reading the other day that he was at Monaco when Tapie (sp?) was at Marseille (sp? - where is bad english when you need him?) bribing referees.  He may have felt that he did not want to work within a corrupt league and at the time his reputation was not enough to work in Eng/Spain etc.  Just guessing like.

Martinez was just a crazy choice. He's win ratio at Wigan should have made it clear to the board that he was'nt ready for a huge job. Grayson may be slightly different though. He's already at a big club and he's built a good side there.

He would'nt be my choice because there are better out there, but if we are going to take a gamble on a non-premiership manager, i'd rather do it with a manager with a winning mentality. Besides, let's not forget, Paul Lambert was flavour of the month on here a few weeks back.
