We should have appointed Sven in the first place.

I'll be disappointed if it's Martinez. I can't pretend. I will support him 110% but it just stinks of the mid 1980s to me.

It's definitely not a statement of intent. It won't make the world sit up and take notice. It'll signal, 'they're happy to float along mid-table'.

Very disheartened tonight.

Tom Hanks would be pleased.

As I said earlier, Roberto Martinez could easily be Graham Turner re-visited.

We're at a bit of a crossroads and gambles are the last thing we should be attempting.  That list aint great though!!

You'll probably taking the piss, but I agree.

IF it is Martinez lets give him at least a bit of time to get settled before getting on his back - all this talk of letdown and mid 80s lack of ambition seems a bit defeatist to me.

He is going to be himself, it is totally unfair to compare him with other managers who have failed.

I said at the time i'd have taken Sven last season over Houlier every time.

Maybe, but when you could have had Rafa or Carlo and get Martinez and know that your best players are in demand it's hard to be excited about this appointment. Reading between the lines etc, it doesn't look great that's all I'm saying. Of course I wish him the best and WANT to be eating lorry loads of humble pie in twelve months time.

I'm comparing the randam nature of taking a shock, largely unproven Manager into our Club when it's at a real crossroads - we've tried this before and we ended up getting relegated.

This appointment would remind me of that one.  That's the parrallel

We also tried it with Little and Gregory, and they did okay.

37 is awfully young to take a job as important as this.

He seems a really nice guy, well spoken with good ideas about the game. I just think he might lack the ruthless streak needed to succeed at this level. Every great manager has that in their locker.
