He may not get the job. I see it as we have sounded out two potential candidates in FSW and Mac via agents as they were unemployed. We couldn't do this with Martinez as he is employed.

We are run by an honourable bunch, so they've gone around things the right way. It doesn't mean we will employ him as we may not like what he says if/when he's interviewed.

Plenty of twists and turns to come.

Thinking you're getting Ancellotti and ending up Martinez, is like going to bed with who you think was Kelly Brook and then waking up the next morning and finding out it was actually Susan Boyle.

37 is awfully young to take a job as important as this.

He seems a really nice guy, well spoken with good ideas about the game. I just think he might lack the ruthless streak needed to succeed at this level. Every great manager has that in their locker.

I have said no to Martinez but can't agree that 37 is too young. Cruyff won major honours  with Ajax in his thirties and how old is Guardiola?

I'd argue Guardiola has a heluva easier job with Messi in his side. Martinez will have to do with Gabby! :(

Some people have missed the point, we are not in the position where we can bring in a big name to spend a 100 million in the hope that it delivers the promissed land, we have to try to do this another way. Martinez does not have the best record but he is young bright and could build on what we have, its a gamble but a better and frsher approach to bringing in someone in to hold the fort whilst he works on his next appointment.

If Martinez is the excellent prospect that some claims that he is, how can we know that we're not just a stepping stone on his path to Chelsea, Inter or Real Madrid?

By the way, is this not a record-breaking thread? More than 20 pages a day.

You couldnt appoint anyone based on thinking that. In fact we might as well all give up and let the top 4 compete in a mini league!

If we lose a manager to Real Madrid he'll have done a lot better than our wildest dreams.

That doesn't really matter does it, the point being he's done fuck all to suggest he's on his way to any of those clubs. I've every faith in RL, this is a smokescreen, for the real target.

Susan Boyle can rest her chins on me anytime.

Whats wrong with Mick McCarthy? When you see there wage bill compared to most Premier teams you got to hand it to him, he is doing a grand job at Wolves.

Nothings wrong with him, I think he is great - what I am trying to say (maybe put it wrong) is Martinez has achieved what they have and no more - but you are right, McCarthy is a better manager than Martinez - but he's from Yorkshire, not Murcia , and his name is Mick McCarthy, not Michel Carchea - so no one will consider him

Alex McLeish (in fact, no, McLeish is better)

Even my staunch Blues supporting mates hate Mcleish for the dour football he plays, still it would appear that negative is right up your street and they won't be playing in the same divisionas the guy you think is shit.

I can't see how sid or kmac are a lesser candidate than Martinez.

One has been a manager for 4 seasons the others haven't.

For those who remember, this seems early 80's all over again. Manager has disagreement with board, manager walks, board appoint manager who is well well over his head , players that made us the most successful side in europe sold each year to reduce increasing wage bill, those players replaced by youngsters who are the "future"

Team relegated.

Luckily we had a saviour then - will there be one this time.

Negative yes - but when you've seen it all before, you cant help being negative

Somehow, I never imagined you were that old from what you have been posting.

I look forward to the day when you wrist-slashers are whingeing about the lack of credit we and Roberto are getting from "lazy journo's" and you put your foot through the radio because of those insufferable tossers on Talksport.

I'm starting to think you're all part of the great anti-Villa conspiracy after all.

You know they're trying to poison me in here?

It's certainly one i'd be selling to the Van Gaal's of thos world before I'd be speaking to the Martinez's.

Prem experience is a pre-requisite, that is out there already. We have supposedly approached bigger names than Martinez and been knocked back, he is not the first fucking choice that lots of people keep making out.
