Faulkner's statement: http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2373781,00.html

It appears to say 'don't flush the toilet just yet, because there are a few more turds to throw into it.'

Ha ha. I have to say though, I'm getting a bit concerned with the amount of control Faulkner appears to have. Does he have a lot of experience in this type of deal, or is he strictly business? I think we may need someone who knows the game a lot better. As MM said a few pages back, we're doing everything by the book. I'm not sure this is working in our favour.

We're becoming second rate.

I also think we are second rate but not in your derogatory tone.

With regards to attracting both a manager then ultimately players then we probably are second rate, based on our league position/expectations and budget for transfers/wages.

Could do with asking one of Wigan's 246 supporters about this.

Have they got a forum?

Like all fans in thsi situation were really just speculating on the speculation.

Because if we don't do this there's not a fat lot to actually talk about.

Right, i'm off out to get some lunch and then I'll be going to see Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides.

I'll be away for a few hours but this Dave Whelan interview interests me. I think a lot will happen during those hours and maybe a surprise or two? When I come back I have this gut feeling i'll turn on SSN and something big will have happened whilst I've been away.

From the list on this poll, would anyone take MON over any of them i.e. to come back (hypathetical question)? Or more to the point over Martinez???

Nearly would actually. But would have been much, much happier NOT having to admit that. I'll be very disappointed if some of these rumours are true, that Rafa turned us down because of the transfer kitty etc. We are bigger than all this surely?

I'd rather boil my head than appoint Martinez, but would rather appoint Martinez than O'Neill.
He can get to eternal fuck.

Just hope we get the right man soon, I'm sick of getting footy updates on my phone saying players could be leaving...Young (OK, so he is), Carlos, Downing. Then on top of that, naming managers that won't be taking the job.

Can't see the problem with Martinez. We're not going to get a top-class manager, so why worry about trying to get Ancelotti etc.? If we get Hughes we'll probably finish 7th-ish for a few seasons, ocassionaly playing really well and ocassionaly playing really bad, then he'll leave.

Martinez went to Wigan and basically said this is how I play football and we'll do the same every game. Against us, for large parts of the game, they were better and looked good. He had a team that could pass well and attack well. What he didn't have was a defence or Darren Bent. You give him a defence, which we do have (despite some mishaps last season), D.Bent and a bit of money, then let's see where we go.

I'd find it much more interesting to see where we could go with Martinez. If it works, then I really think people will want to start going back down the Villa because it's an exciting place to watch football, and if it doesn't work, I very much doubt we'd go down because our players will always be better than those from at least 15 downwards. If we did finish below 10th, we'd probably still not have achieved any less than what someone like Hughes would do.

Let's take a chance with a manager who knows how he wants to play and will stop at nothing to get his players to play that way, a way that should be exciting to watch. Let's be honest, we're not going to win the league, so let's have some excitement on the pitch instead with some good football.

Maybe not, but we could do a damn site better than Martinez.

so let's have some excitement on the pitch instead with some good football.
Again, this myth that Wigan play 'good football'

So according to Shteve he wasn't approached (thank god) but that also brings into question the story about us saying no to Rafa's £30M transfer kitty, we are about to receive £20M for Young plus the board will know we need players. I would have said £30M is not enough, can't see Randy being scared by that to be honest.

I still think it'll be Mark Hughes.

I think this is looking increasingly likely. Strange way to conduct our appointment if it is though. I think i'm going to give up speculating on who it might be though, nobody seems to know anything.
