Pat Murphy again saying Benitez wanted £30m to spend.  But apparently we don't have/don't want to spend that much.
Not even including the Young money? Doesn't sound promising

Would you prefer O'Neill managing our transfer budget?

What's O'Neill got to do with it? Where has he been mentioned in this?
Well everything really.

Would you want someone like O'Neill as manager trying to do the role as chariman as well as manager going around thinking he owns the club or do you want someone like Martinez who know where stands and knows his role in the club... as manager.

It's got nothing to do with O'Neill! I don't even know why you brought O'Neill up. You may as well have said 'would you want the Hamburgler looking after our finances?'

Just because Paulie said he thinks Martinez would be crap with the money, doesn't automatically mean that he thinks O'Neill would do better. Honestly, its just a non sequitur that you brought up to argue your point with. Utter bollocks.

Why are people looking at Martinez is such a rigid way?

Villa is a much bigger step up from Wigan and a challenge he'll relish, he'd be given a bigger budget and he'll have better players to work with... you're not even giving him a chance when we haven't even hired the man!

Don't you think the Everton fans had some reservations about Moyes? Of course they did, but looking back they're very happy that he was made manager back then. Oh and get this, Moyes was 39 back when he became Everton manager. 37-39... massive difference.

You haven't come up with a single positive argument in favour of Martinez.  Not one.  Of course he'll relish the challenge, but then so would Steve McClaren who you don't want, as would just about any other out of work manager out there.
Martinez has only had 2 seasons at Wigan, every season people always have Wigan going down... Martinez is the tactical mastermind who has done really well with the resources given and in both seasons has achieved something. Got his team playing some good football and on both occasions his team has avoided relegation, especially this season when Wigan looked all but down with around 7/8 games to go. He never backed down, he always stuck with his footballing philosophy and eventually he got his reward, unlike McLeish for example.

Lets remember who's he's managing - Wigan Pathetic. Some pikey northern town where football isn't that popular, they're easily the most small-market team in the Prem.

He did the buisness at Wigan, remember he was a Championship manager until a couple of years ago - he's only just begun his quest but obviously at the same time he's still got a lot to prove. I do think Martinez has the potential - I can see it in his eyes.

Also, lets look at what he did at Swansea. He's the reason they're in the Prem, he laid down the foundations, he got them promoted to the Championship and put them into the position where they were good enough to get into one of those qualifying spot. He got the ball rolling and he transformed how the team played even with limited resources.

People may say he might be out of his depth to manage the Villa... but mark my word, if we don't hire him as manager, in a few years time people will be banging there fists on here demanding why didn't go for Martinez when we had the chance. There's plenty of potential with Martinez, he's still very young, his quest hasn't even begun yet, he hasn't had the chance to take on a club like Villa.

Wally with the Brolly or Roberto 'mastermind' Martinez? I know who I would go for.

I can't believe what I'm reading here, I was away all evening. Last time I was on it looked like a big name was on the way. Where has it all gone wrong?

Whoever comes in needs that PLUS the sale of Young to sort the squad.

Also - Downing said the club had promised signings etc too him. I can't see that as the reason.

I'd wished that we could also see it in Wigan's defence.

Sounds unlikely too when you look at the personnel changes required throughout the team. £30m doesn't get you a lot these days, which is obviously mental, but there you are.

I think I'd rather go for Simon Grayson than Martinez.

is this a bolloxathon? bobmartin would not have us chasing the top pack for years moyes finished 17th and 15th his first 2 seasons we couldnt afford that as a 17th for us would see bent go. elverton were a tin pot outfit at the time whos aspiration  were survival. we are the biggest club in the midlands by a mile everton are the birmingham city of the north, ifwe sign bob martin now i is a statement that avfc will no longer be aspiering towards the champions league. players will leave as a result and we drop back to mid table and getting knocked out of the fa cup 3rd round year on year.

wigan play shit football in the sence they dont win games football is about winning if it was about fannying round passing in triangles arsenal would be winning things 5 years witout a trophy says it all.

he is not the man for the job by any strech of the imagination and what your seeing in his eyes could be put down to your homo erotic fantasys

Everton have won more League titles and FA Cups than we have. I doubt they are the birmingham city of the North.
