Can't we just get Hughes and end it. Mightily pisses off with this if true. Who are the advisors to the board? Graham Taylor, deadly doug?

In Martinez's favour, he seems to be unbeatable at Villa Park!

He's also the most likeable of the candidates, you'd be hoping he'd do well, even if you fear he won't.

He seems to be able to find promising young players

He likes to try to play good football, and at a bigger club like Villa he'll be able to afford more/better players to match his style.

So, still no arguments in favour other than pithy pictures?
What did McLaren win at 37?

pls go.

I'm sorry, is this World of Warcraft?

Are you suggesting then that a manager with not that much experience becomes Villa's next manager?

In his first season as assistant manager at Man U they won the treble.

Come on, you must have something sensible to add in support of Martinez, other than that we're not Man U, and that he isn't Steve McClaren?  Anything at all?

What on earth does the fact he's 37 have to do with it? I'll give you any 37 year old you like if those are your criteria.

What has he ever shown to suggest he's good enough to be our manager?

Until the last two games of last season, Martinez had never won two consecutive league games at Wigan. Never.

What did Moyes show when Everton appointed him? It is gamble granted, but surely you cannot denied the reason behind approaching Martinez?

Mike Phelan is Fergie's assistant manager, what's your point? Can you see that birdbrain ever winning anything?

I liked how tried to make what McLaren achieved seem really speical as ASSITANT MANAGER.

ASSISTANT MANAGER.

ASSISTANT MANAGER

ASISTANT MANAGER.

I really don't think Fergie's assistant manager really has a huge impact on the team, I think it's Fergie doing most of the talking.

And we were beaten 7-1 by Chelsea, and 6-0 by Newcastle. Not entirely the same, but not massively different.

Phelan is a bird brain who would never win anything, except he's probably still got a hangover from celebrating the league title.

Martinez is a good appointment because ......

Go on.

Well written article by the Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2001191/Aston-Villa-close-Roberto-Martinez.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

How's this as an opener to an article?

"The rise and rise of Roberto Martinez has taken him to the brink of becoming the next Aston Villa manager"

Cracking stuff!
