Randy was at VP yesterday obviously not interviewing probably more taking stock of things .

Yes there was interest in Ancelotti but to say he was the only target is wrong they wanted to speak to him to understand what he could do for Aston Villa as much as what we could do for Ancelotti . I personally didn't think he was the right fit for Villa because I just think we wouldn't be able to match either of our aspirations .

McClaren and Hughes as stated one is a non starter the other a consideration of sorts but not going anywhere with it .

I have heard rumours from a few sources that Owen Coyle is in the thinking but wouldn't put my house on it I genuinely don't think anyone outside of the inner sanctum really knows who we are after now .

Benitez might not like the look of him or his arrogance towards other clubs when in charge of Liverpool also made some odd signings but who hasn't . But you can't say he isn't a decent candidate for AVFC jesus he got the job after Liverpool to manage the Champions of Europe ! Good cv but I am not sure Randy would want another control freak in if you are to believe what Rafa is and his dealings in the past with his previous Boards.

I think Randy will look to someone who can build on what GH was starting to do with the scouting / the type of football and sorting out the wage bill in line with the UEFA rulings and our budget ! He will want someone he can trust who when he is away from base  and can work with the CEO ! He will want a Manager of the Football side of the club who won't get involved in the other side.

My hunch is that man ias the finished article is Moyes but may have to settle for a work in progress.

I've gone for Rijkaard as the 'exciting unknown'.  I don't like Rafa, but you can't knock his credentials for the job, and Hughes would do a decent job aswell.  So any of those three would keep me happy.

I wish Houlier was still here now ..  I still think we were going in the right direction .  what an important time in the history of Aston Villa.

But Coyle has taken a squad that isn't really any better than Wigan's and done so much better.

You're right that Coyle has done very well. But when things started getting serious for Bolton (FA Cup Semi, business end of the season), they fell apart. When the bottom line came for Wigan, they pulled together and achieved what they needed to.

Other than that, I guess it just comes down to a gut feeling that Martinez is going to go on to be very successful somewhere.

i voted coyle. i'm not sure why now. i just don't like the list. rijkaard worries me, i'm not sure how well he'd do. despite him being a top name and popular i'm not sure of his abilities at a club like villa. we should certainly talk to him though.
martinez should be an absolute back-up option. if everyone else turns us down, we should go for him. i don't like rafa, mcclaren would be a PR disaster and hughes seems unlikely due to his lack of loyalty.

Got a strange feeling that it will be a real left field appointment that we weren't expecting.

Thanks for the update MM. So I have no idea who we should get now. Would like Moyes, just don't think he will come. I agree  with continuing the work that GH started, so what about someone like Klinsman? what's Joachim Low upto these days?

Can't believe the majority want Benitez, he's a Spanish Houllier.

I’m beginning to get the impression that our strict criteria for a manager is backing us into a corner and ruling out far more qualified candidates.
If we are just looking for a touchline manager who has no interest in the business and politics of the club and has Premiership experience then we are instantly ruling out the likes of Van Gaal, Benitez, Rijkaard and a host of European Managers and narrowing the field down to a small group of Premiership tracksuit managers such as Coyle and Martinez.
IF we go ahead and get these guys then the club are taking a big gamble in sending the club off in a direction that many Villa fans would not have expected when Randy first came in.

I'm so bored of this shit.

When GH left I was excited about getting someone in & moving on.

Now this is just boring & I'm feeling that we'll be disappointed.

Might go to sleep for a couple of weeks.

Who would you like ideally, Chris?

Moyes of the realsitic options. I'd give anyone the benefit of the doubt if they were appointed but just think it's the right time to get him.
