To be honest, my head is spinning. I dont really know who I want now if we cant get Ancelotti or van Gaal.

I don't understand the sudden support for Benitez either? I can't work out if its because No-one likes Mclaren or were just struggling for a name other than Mclaren

It baffles me why Martinez has so many more votes than Coyle.  They both manage poxy little NW clubs, yet one escaped relegation by the skin of his teeth, and one was knocking around the top 6 for most of the season.  Coyle tries to get his teams playing football the same as Martinez, so is it just the foreign sounding name?

On the revised poll I've gone for Martinez. We'll probably never be able to spend enough to get regular CL football so we might as well get some entertainment and watch our side play lovely football!

What I like about Martinez is that at one point this season, most people had pretty much written Wigan off as relegated. From there they got some pretty unbelievable results including a couple of comeback wins. To get what is pretty much a patched together squad of players trying to score moves to bigger clubs to come together like that must show at least that the man has some motivational skills.  Of the 'up-and-coming manager' choices, he would definitely be my pick.

But Coyle has taken a squad that isn't really any better than Wigan's and done so much better.

Snap. I would love Moyes, but I doubt that's going to happen. Can't decide between Benitez or Hughes. Then Rijkaard drops his name in.

Same here. I voted for Benitez in the revised poll last night but having slept on it I'm not so sure. I've now settled on 'don't give a shit who it is as long as it's not McClaren', and I've renewed my ST regardless of who it might be.

Bit mystified why Benitez has a lot of support.
When he was sacked by Liverpool, they were a mid-table team filled with average players, one of the most mediocre teams in Liverpool's history. He had lost the dressing room and made some extremely expensive but dodgy signings (Aquilaini and Glen Johnson both around 17 million).
He was sacked also by Inter, after criticizing the owners for a lack of funds.
He's also very much into zonal marking and squad rotation.

I just don't think he's a good fit for Villa right now.
I'd say Rafa left a squad of good but jaded players behind.

You have to realise by that point Liverpool was not being run by football people interested in success but by financiers with a remit to reduce debt and make the club as attractive as possible to investors.

That meant keeping the key players without really adding to them. In other words, players like Gerrard, Carra, Torres and Reina all signed new contracts on the promise of a bright future that was never to be and the summer Aquilani and Johnson arrived, the truth became apparent to them.

Alonso and Arbeloa sold for a combined £40m, Aquilani and Johnson bought for a combined £35m. Plug pulled on a deal for Stevan Jovetic. Sell-to-buy only. No transfer budget.

Having just finished second in the league, the feeling was fresh investment in the squad that summer could have taken us the final step. So when the only arrivals were an injured Aquilani and Glen Johnson (plus bargain-basement Soto Krygiakos), suddenly things weren't looking quite as rosy.

Both Aquilani and Johnson have proven themselves to be good players this season but they joined Liverpool at the wrong time and in bad circumstances.

I'm really struggling to pick any from that revised list.
Can we add Ancelotti back in please ?

I'd be pretty annoyed if we didnt approach van Gaal because he hasnt got Premier League experience. With some managers you just know they'd do well no matter what league they're in. He's one.
We need somebody to stick around and build something but also be something of a draw too.
I suppose Benitez could be that but a lot of his Liverpool shenanigans frighten me.

I'm not interested in Martinez and Risso is right, Coyle is a better manager than he is, comfortably.
Martinez is a nice bloke and reasonably capable, that's about it. Not that I really want Coyle either.

Just seen a tweet from Matt Kendrick stating that McClaren is NOT the leading contender for the Villa job.

TFFT! Lets hope he's right.
